Consolidated Kansas

Danz - I guess you were typing and posting while I was typing and posting mine. Sorry about the insurance news and health issues. I've had my share too so I understand a little of what you are going through. Hang in there....

Boy, I sure do have a hard time following these posts. What is the protocol for answering someone?Do you post at the end of the thread or do you post under the question? Yes, the geese should be laying soon. I hatched a few last year and shipped them. Second time was a nightmare. The post office subcontracts with Fedex and when they figured they weren't going to make the window on express they just sat them aside in Minnesota. The lady who bought them had to call and talk them into opening the box and watering them and putting them in the next shipment. Since they didn't make the window I got a full refund and was able to refund her shipping but it was a lot of calls and worry. Interesting story.

You actually don't get a choice. When you hit "reply" it automatically adds your post onto the end of the thread. Using the "quote" button will help to make it clearer what you are responding to, especially if it is on the previous page.....

So today I went into the coop and found...a pretty little GREEN pullet egg! I couldn't believe my luck! The pullet who laid it is one of the BO crosses. Anyway, I know for those of you who already have rainbow egg baskets, this is probably pretty humdrum but since I was not expecting it, I am so excited today! DH and DD agreed it was pretty but really didn't understand why I am so excited. I figured you guys might.

Congrats!! That musta been darn eggziting! :)

Yeah some of this is hard to follow. I just read through it all and am always catching some new subject I am interested in or think I know about.
BTW I went out again to take a picture of the pups and they were all bunched up taking a nap together. I knew Marshmallow was sitting outside so she must have filled their tummies and left them to sleep for a while. I'll catch those little burgers awake soon. I went out there last night (without the camera of course) and they were awake. One of them was sitting up. First time I'd sene that in this litter. I love watching them grow!
Patricia, Chooks just went through something almost identical but she couldn't find her birds for a few days. I keep putting people off that want me to ship. I just keep feeling sorry for the poor birds. I ship eggs now and then but live birds is something else. At least you and I are close enough we could split a trip or something.

HE, congrats on the green egg, I know exactly how you feel, I waited forever for my EE hen to start laying after I got her. She isn't the most consistent layer of my hens, but I'm always thrilled to find her pretty blue-green egg when she does.

Danz, I can identify with you on the health problems & the insurance thing scares me. I have life insurance right now, but next year is the end of my level term that I had gotten back when I worked. I'm afraid they're going to really jack my rate up then. I'm afraid to apply for any other life insurance because with my health problems they probably will want to charge me high prices. Back when my late husband had found out about his kidney disease he hadn't thought about increasing his life insurance before that. When he did think of it he had already been diagnosed with the kidney disease. We did find a company that would insure him, but it was expensive. The only nice thing about it though was they had this clause in it where if you became terminal that you could get your life insurance early to use for expenses & he got it & used it to pay off our house, which was nice. Then he had enough life insurance from his job to cover his funeral expenses when he died. I didn't end up with much after that, but at least the house was paid off & his funeral expenses were paid. I'm sorry you're having these problems, these companies just seem to be really nit-picky. I just recently got some life insurance on my son who is just 31. He said that they asked him some really strange questions & he asked them why they were asking them & they said that it had to do with how much risk they thought he would be. Can you believe they would be that worried about insuring a 31 year old? I would think someone my age would be more of a risk than a 31 year old, but who knows what they're thinking.

Patricia, yes it is kind of hard to follow this thread sometimes. I have to back up to where I read last so I can figure out what's going on. If you miss getting on here one day you miss several pages.

We have some people on the map so far on the Kansas Poultry Swap site on Facebook, but we need more people to go on there & put in their location so Candace can add you to the map. If you don't want to put your real name on that's fine, use your BYC handle. We just want to get an idea where everybody is located so we can maybe plan a meet at some point. I know there are a lot more people who frequent this thread than have been added to the map so far. Some may just be lurkers, but don't be so shy, we won't bite, I promise.
