HE, congrats on the green egg, I know exactly how you feel, I waited forever for my EE hen to start laying after I got her. She isn't the most consistent layer of my hens, but I'm always thrilled to find her pretty blue-green egg when she does.
Danz, I can identify with you on the health problems & the insurance thing scares me. I have life insurance right now, but next year is the end of my level term that I had gotten back when I worked. I'm afraid they're going to really jack my rate up then. I'm afraid to apply for any other life insurance because with my health problems they probably will want to charge me high prices. Back when my late husband had found out about his kidney disease he hadn't thought about increasing his life insurance before that. When he did think of it he had already been diagnosed with the kidney disease. We did find a company that would insure him, but it was expensive. The only nice thing about it though was they had this clause in it where if you became terminal that you could get your life insurance early to use for expenses & he got it & used it to pay off our house, which was nice. Then he had enough life insurance from his job to cover his funeral expenses when he died. I didn't end up with much after that, but at least the house was paid off & his funeral expenses were paid. I'm sorry you're having these problems, these companies just seem to be really nit-picky. I just recently got some life insurance on my son who is just 31. He said that they asked him some really strange questions & he asked them why they were asking them & they said that it had to do with how much risk they thought he would be. Can you believe they would be that worried about insuring a 31 year old? I would think someone my age would be more of a risk than a 31 year old, but who knows what they're thinking.
Patricia, yes it is kind of hard to follow this thread sometimes. I have to back up to where I read last so I can figure out what's going on. If you miss getting on here one day you miss several pages.
We have some people on the map so far on the Kansas Poultry Swap site on Facebook, but we need more people to go on there & put in their location so Candace can add you to the map. If you don't want to put your real name on that's fine, use your BYC handle. We just want to get an idea where everybody is located so we can maybe plan a meet at some point. I know there are a lot more people who frequent this thread than have been added to the map so far. Some may just be lurkers, but don't be so shy, we won't bite, I promise.
