I'm doing meat chickens and turkeys for the first time this year. I'm going in with 3 other people. I'm apprehensive about it.
I was apprehensive too the first year I raised meat chickens and turkeys.

It wasn't easy, still isn't, but I have learned to honor the life of the bird by treating them well and once they are on the table... not wasting any part of them. All extra bits of meat go into soups and stews and use the carcass for making bone broth and stock.
Far superior to anything you can buy in a grocery store.

Usually there is nothing left of a whole carcass at our dinner table because the leftovers go to the dogs and the cat 😂

I used to buy a whole hog once a year. Best meat ever!
I miss raising my own beef too. I am pretty sure my in town status makes that a no go now.
My husband wants to do a pig roast so bad because he used to do it with his friends so he knows how to do it. We just don't have a pig yet.

I'm hoping that we find agricultural land with five or more acres so that we can have pigs, chickens, goats, turkeys, ducks, quail, alpacas, and rabbits.

I want to keep breeders for each of the animals besides the alpacas because those are just because. Then we will have a continuous supply of meat all the time.

I honestly wish I would have gotten heritage turkeys instead of the broad-breasted because I honestly love turkeys. I wouldn't mind having a breeder flock of them.

Yeah the only ones I can find here are the BBW too. Lol we aren't allowed turkeys here anyway.
Yes yes yes to 5+ acres. That would be awesome.

......now wondering if I can find a beef cow.....

We want a beef cow too. I just don't think I could butcher that myself 😳 way too much work. I'd have to bring it to a processor that's 2 hours away.

Our hogs were purchased and processed through a processor too. The beef cows were dairy bulls rejected for defects (undecended and male so of no use to them). It takes linger, more feed and less yield but when you get a nice (not mean) one it was enjoyable to raise.
I did have issues with neighbors stealing my hay and ducks out there.
Pick your acerage carefully.

I had a stack of 300 bales of horse grade grass hay and a good neighbor let me know that while I was at work he saw another neighbor load up at least 7 bales.
That sucked.....buying feed and it getting stolen.
I did get my ducks back. I cut through their fence with the sheriff standing by. They RAN to their pen on my land. The sheriff told me I should keep a gun on me at all times because those people were trouble in a dangerous way. I started wearing a 357.

I want to live somewhere where the neighbors are not close 😂 I can't stand having people too close to my property especially when I have livestock.

I can't stand a person who steals! At least buy it or ask for them or I'll shoot you!

Love y'all but I gotta get rolling on my chores here. I have a truck loaded with shrub trimmings I need to empty and things I need to pick up from the hardware store.
Building a temporary house for the ducks.....I need them OUT of the chicken house TODAY! My hens have had enough of them being in there.
