No knowledge of evolution. Just intelligent design.

The worst text books in our educational system are history books.
Way too much left out.
Intelligent design? What else could evolution could be? Nothing is completely random ... especially when you have all of eternity to tweak your designs ... or to wipe the slate clean and start over if you're not happy with the overall effect!

And you're right - history books are woefully inadequate, simply by design. It's hard enough to reduce a novel to a 90 minute movie. I can't imagine having to reduce a thousand years into one, semester-teachable tome. And on top of that, most are all culture-centric, as in, leaning toward the culture from which they originated. Sometimes it's because of politics, many times it's simply the writer's own experience or training showing. That's why we should never stop reading - and education should never be over!

Missed it.
Casting aspersions at the state of public education in our country; no science? no health ed? no history? Seems like it to me...
Mary
That's not really casting aspersions. The southern states have a deplorable record for public education. Sure there are good schools and systems, but education has only recently become a funding priority in many areas - and they're so far behind that, even growing by leaps and bounds, they're still well behind much of the country. My brother moved his family to Louisiana due to a plant closing up here - and my SIL did tons of research to find and acceptable school system for my niece. Even in the best school she could find, the poor kid was dubbed "The Smart Kid" by all her classmates almost immediately. I guess we never realized what a good school system we had around here until it got compared to "Down South."

I hate to cast aspersions but perhaps it is related to the fact that the 7 states with the poorest education results are in the southeast.
Perhaps the same reason some didn't believe Obama was born in the US. Maybe they didn't know Hawaii was a state.
Anyone ever see Jay Walking on Jay Leno?
I've lived all over the US and I can assure you there are "Covid Party" parties and party types elsewhere too. Some of them have been neighbors so while perhaps we may find more of it in certain locations, it really is all over.

Speaking of places...I went to schools in the north, mid-atlantic, and the south, The differences back then caused me major whiplash!!

Definitely! Build a coffee filter into it. That'll catch a lot more gummy mess!
Coffee filters...yeah, those catch a whole lot of icky stuff! Sometimes when I was milking and I was out of real milk filters I would use 2 coffee filters to filter the milk through.

Hey @reddogmaster2 ...what do you think? Would coffee filters be good for gooey sink scum?? They work great for raw milk. Works good too when you have to super glue a broken nail. Make a little patch of filter apply a little dab of glue.... and voila! Magic! Doesn't ruin an expensive manicure either.

These Covid Parties remind me of the "Chicken Pox Parties" our moms used to have when we were kids. That's probably what people are remembering ... without any thought to the differences between the two diseases. Scary!

Yeah and now they are getting shingles... which is very painful

We all got chicken pox, German measles, and 'regular' measles, and mumps, and getting exposed then wasn't that bad an idea. It was going to happen to everyone anyway.
Shingles is NOT fun! The shingles vaccine is a good thing.
When vaccines for those diseases came out, best believe our children got them all! And back 'in the day', nobody declined polio vaccinations, or tetanus, or smallpox vaccinations either. Reality hits hard, and is inspirational!

We really didn't have much of a choice, then. There wasn't a chicken pox or shingles vaccine, so controlling when we got the virus was usually a good thing, My cousin had chicken pox at the beginning of summer, when school was over, so every kid in the neighborhood came over that afternoon! IIt worked out beautifully, because by the time we we over the worst of it, it was hot out. The doctors all said the chlorine water was good for healing, so we spent the next month "healing" in our pool. Our back yard was the happenin' place that summer!

The sentiment against “smart kids” was strong in southern California during the 1960s-70s !

I thought maybe you had just a "wee farm!"
Actually vertically challenged folks are best for the world, our "footprint" is much smaller.
As long as you have people like me who get the stuff you can’t reach at the store you’re gold! :gig
