If a dog is Man's best friend, a horse is definitely Woman's!
Here here!! **raises glass** 🥂🍻

Your current pasture ornaments sound wonderful and spotted ones are sooo purdy :love Billy approved, I'm sure of it.

And thanks, he was a wonderful horse. And the reason for my weakness towards small spots. My current pasture puff has birdcatcher spots and I love them.

There are dressage saddles with very deep seats (confining?!) and saddles that are not so all embracing. I prefer the latter types myself.
My first riding lessons (junior high age!) were saddle seat, but much later found dressage, much better. Try it!
At least in those olden times, saddle seat training and riding made the horse 'disconnected' front to rear, the opposite of what's wanted in dressage.
Probably not the conversation for this thread though.
Now my horses are 'pasture pets'!

I don't know why it wouldn't be appropriate for this thread... this is how we're passing our time during quarantine! If you want to get back to Covid for a bit, Maryland just announced that, as of this Saturday, anyone out in a public building (grocery stores, feed stores, banks, anything) MUST wear a mask. So much for leveling off ...

My Appy would do the same thing. He had free range of the yard whenever anyone was home, and if we left a drink untended, it was fair game for Billy. We were regulars at our local Hardee's, too. It was the first one in our area with a drive-thru and we figured out just how to stand two horses on the plate to trip the speakers. It's funny how many french fries go accidentally "dropped" when we showed up. There was always an extra bag for the horses. I'll never forget the first time Billy figured out how a straw worked. He was just playing with it and somehow ended up with a taste of soda. The look of surprise on his face was priceless ... as was the concentration while he tried to figure out how to make it happen again. It didn't take him long, then no cups were safe. Holy cow, I miss that horse. he had more personality than most of the people I've met and ten times the loyalty and companionship!

Your boy sounds a lot like my Stanley was. He was half Arab half Saddlebred. Big goober most of the time. He would try anything I was eating. Loved sharing a gin & tonic with my dad. He loved m&ms but only the peanut kind. He would spit the regular ones out.
Oh the memories! The only drive through we had in our small town was a Jack in the box. We did the same exact thing. My Stanley liked the tacos. He also loved Dr Pepper. Right next door was a 711 and it had a hitching post so we would tie them up and go get our slurpees. One for the horses of course. It's funny the things you don't think about until someone sparks a memory!
Stanley was my Equitation horse but my parents were advocates of show horses trail riding and being a horse. Keeps their brains in tact.
Sorry just catching up while I take a break.

What breed were you riding saddleseat? Just curious because that is the exact opposite of how I was taught. Their motor is in the hind so we want them to drive from behind and be light on the forehand.

I may also have to go this route. ^^^
My incubator never showed up via Amazon, so I have filed the complaint thing and will see how that goes. In the mean time my idea of hatching out what I can and being more self sustainable may have to wait until I have a broody mom.
Figures.... first time I actually want to keep a roo (who is still behaving BTW) for breeding I don't have a setting hen to do anything with. Fat chance I'll find a decent priced incubator online now too.

......wondering if I should entertain ordering some roos.

(OMG, I cannot believe it's gotten to the point that I would actually order one roo much less a box full of them :th)
Where are you in VA? If you post a request on your state thread (Where Am I? Where are You!, under "Forums,") I'll bet you'll find someone with an extra rooster.

No apologies! Trips down Memory Lane are required nowadays ... if only for the warm smiles they generate!

Until now I've only ever owned one good roo. He was older when I got him and passed of old (old for a roo) age. That's a roo I miss. All the others have been mean, nasty, feathered balls of red hot hate.
Momma does not tolerate shi**y behavior. Nope.
That's the byproduct of breeding for egg production. Gamefowl cocks being selectively bred are totally different than layer roosters. Calm, docile, they are capable of thought and have personality. Alot of people think games are mean to humans by nature but they couldn't be more wrong. I mean back in the day the absolute very last thing a handler would have wanted in the pit is a gamecock strapped with weapons to turn on him lol

Besides the dining area of our local diner being closed, not a thing has changed here. Aside from “out-of-towners” coming here and buying up all our Toilet Paper!! I don’t know anyone that has it, knows someone that has it or even knows OF someone having it here!
We are a very small rural/farming community. Less than 60k in the entire county I believe. So strangers kinda stick out. Local stores pretty much know everyone, at least by face, so they have started to refuse sale to anyone that’s from outside of the community. I guess it got pretty bad. The owner said he had someone come down from Nashville and try to buy just about all the toilet paper in stock! After that they stopped sales unless they know/recognize you or someone vouches for you.
I wonder if anyone else on here, that lives out in the country, has noticed a lot of strangers driving around their area? A neighbor told me he spoke to some people that think that they can just come out here to “survive in the country” if it gets bad in town and they were here looking around! I think people believe that they can just escape the city and just come out to our farms to “survive”! I hope that’s not true and that’s not the case. Cuz they’re gonna have a very rude awakening if it is! Most land owners around here do NOT take kindly to trespassers.
