So what do kids without internet service do?
Here, a place that does have internet shortages, there are work packets going home and it's been discussed to have mobile hotspots set up for those kids without internet. Some of the schools supply Chromebooks to the kids because textbooks are on the computer now.
So with a supplied hot spot they could in theory keep up.

They are doing breakfast and lunch pick up for kids too so they have enough to eat.

I will know more on what is going on here after our meeting with the principal. Both of my kids are middle school. I am worried about my daughter's Algerbra 1, she has to take a test at the end of the year to show she knows the material. This class is a High School credit for her. If she doesn't pass the test then she has to retake it. I don't think she will have any problems she is an hournors student, but with this i am a little worried. She plans on starting bio med classes and AP classes next year, then her senior year she is planing on doing allied health which she would ba a Certified Nursing Assistant right out of high School. She needs this class to get things dones and have enought credits to do everything she wants to do..

My kiddo's high school hasn't said how they might do finals this year, but they did omit the SOLs (pssa's, yearly assessments) and all the kids will get their credits for the year and I think that was based on how they had done up to the point of having to learn from home. Kiddo is also an honors kid so I was worried about that too.
Zoom classes have been interesting....

Kale is something I don't like 🤮
I'm not a huge fan either but it grows really well for me so I dry it. Tons of it!
Then I use it in soups, smoothies, sauces, casseroles, and sprinkled across stuff for kale goodness without the strong kale-y flavor.

I'm wondering if a lot of people bought these chicks thinking that they would start laying eggs pretty soon 😂 because we may see a lot of complaint threads on here 🤦🏼‍♀️
:lau OMG!! I wouldn’t be surprised. I’ve seen people ask what’s wrong with their chicks and why isn’t it laying yet when the chicken is only like 15 or 16 weeks old or younger and one was a dual purpose breed too so they start later usually. They legit thought their chicken was broken and defective. 😂🤦‍♀️

I’ve also seen people throw 8 week old puppies outside with the livestock right away with zero training, supervision, or guidance or anything whatsoever and wonder why it’s killing all the birds and isn’t protecting just natural? 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

So nothing surprises me anymore honestly lol people can be so stupid! I totally get not knowing something but information is sooo accessible these days.... Google it. 😂🤦‍♀️

Oh man, SOLs! I haven't had to think about those awful things since I moved away from Virginia lol. I recognized the term and knew you were from Virginia before I even checked the little location thingy.

I'm currently in high school, and I have actually noticed the work load and the due dates the teachers put on us have noticeably decreased. I think they're really letting us off since pretty much everyone has had no experience with online and remote learning so far.

That's why I have a broody raise mine. It's hard when I have handled them and they trust me. Easier for me when they are harder to catch. By the time I catch them I am ready to wack them
If my layers were old enough to go broody I'd be more than happy to let them.
In the past whenever a hen went broody I'd let her sit on dummy eggs while I got a shipment or bought locally what I wanted, then would pop them under her and remove the eggs. Works every time.
I even put poults or ducklings under chickens regularly. :)

And I agree having some distance does make it easier. In 15 years of having chickens this is the first time I've gotten an incubator ...hopefully I can figure it out correctly.

Only thing is you are going to have to butcher because what else are you going to do with the chicks?

You can't be running around selling chicks to people when there is a virus out there that they are trying to stop from spreading.

Yeah true idk. Maybe the crisis will be over by then. 😂 takes like a month to hatch and I doubt they’ll be mating for a while. But with the way the chicks sell so fast at the stores, I bet they’d go fast!! But you’re right, not exactly safe or smart to be meeting people and possibly spreading it so idk. Hoping the peak hits soon and then it starts dying down.

By the time they’re ready to butcher though, it’ll be summer haha

I might keep some. Maybe I’ll just hatch a few from my favorite hens instead of a bunch. That way it’s easier to keep some or butcher the extras instead of having a ton.

I’m honestly hoping I get a broody. Then she can do the work for me haha

I'm not his biggest fan either. Honestly he has done many things I don't agree with.

I do agree that we should have a stay at home order because people are really too ignorant or just plain brain numb to get why you should stay home right now.

This has been the attitude in Ohio too. Lots of Ohio is not fond of our governor, especially in the circles I know. He's done a lot of things people consider scummy. But both sides agree that what he's doing now is the right thing. I actually see him getting more criticism from his own party and more praise from his opposing party ironically.

People are just glad he's taken real actions and shown good leadership. And it's been working too. Ohios early action is starting to already see some real results now that it's been a couple weeks. We're also apparently really good at sheltering in place. National cases are higher than Ohios and our state-wide cases are lower than neighboring states in the same boat.

Good luck with getting a broody I haven't had one yet.

The person who took my two pullets is in love with them.

The variety matters a great deal. There are so many great heirloom varieties.
I always grow early girl just because it is the first harvestable tomato but I also like Black Krim, Cherokee Purple, Pineapple, Yellow Oxheart and Mr. Stripey.
Oopsie, I quoted this in another post but goofed up. Trying again...

I like all of those and regularly grow Pineapple and Mr Stripey. I've also become a fan of Orange Jubilee. Fat meaty beautiful orange tomatoes with a more paste type of texture. Makes for a great addition to sauces for those who need low acids.
They also self seed well. I leave all the bad ones on the ground and they come back the next year. I did a pink one last year that was really tasty too but don't remember the name ATM.

I’ve had several before but I’ve never had a rooster so couldn’t let them hatch lol I had one Orpington that literally went broody like 5 or 6 times in one year 😂😂

And aww that’s awesome!! Im glad!

Was it Brandywine? Or a more rare variety? We love Brandywine.
