Coronavirus, Covid 19 Discussion and How It Has Affected Your Daily Life Chat Thread

It has had several names, depending on who was speaking.... 2019-nCoV... Wuhan Coronavirus... SARS-CoV-2... 2019 novel coronavirus... and then officially Covid-19... I'm sure there are more that I haven't seen.
It had spread to other countries, but the cases were connected to people from Wuhan or that had traveled there at that point. Pandemic in the making.... only thing that really matters now is how do we save lives & protect those that we love?

So in January, which is what I asked about, it was called COVID19? Are you sure about that? You might wanna check again.

I spoke with G about this tonight and he got super mad. Last week he had to call the cops to have someone removed from his store for trying to assault some rando asian guy that was shopping. I know when the initial restrictions on gatherings went into place he had to write up *two* employees for complaining about the management allowing asians in the store. Full on "I can't believe management is still letting 'Those People' shop in the store!" level racist. He said it's about every three shifts right now he has to de-escalate a situation between a really ignorant customer and some random asian person that's usually not even Chinese because some Karen felt the need to blame every single asian in the world for a virus that's in almost every nation. That means this is a day to day experience in his store.

So. How do we best go about protecting those asian people now? Not to mention people like G who have to de-escalate that violence. And what sort of language will just reinforce that level of ignorance?

Cause thinking about how to protect people who aren't white matters too. Which is why I listen close when people use language like that and why. Especially when they're supposed to be keeping ALL of us safe, not just some of us.

Yes we did think we could be in this situation, we even used to have a pandemic response office in the white house. The truth is we knew in December and did nothing until March. 3 months of denial and sitting our hands is costing lives. Now could cost lives, is costing lives.
We were still unprepared. If this had happened during any other administration the results would have been the same. Not enough masks, ventilators, etc. So politics doesn't matter, the mess we're in and what we're going to do prevent it again does.

Good morning all. Hope everyone is practicing social distancing and washing hands. Here's an update on Massachusetts as 4 pm yesterday:
8966 confirmed cases, 667 cases in my county, 154 deaths statewide. I think I may have mentioned it before, but the stay at home advisory has been extended until 4 May. Robert Kraft and the Patriot organization in coordination with our Governor and many other supporting "players" sent one of the Patriot's planes to China to pick up 1.2 million pieces of PPE. The plane arrived in Boston yesterday and only briefly mentioned on NBC news. So I would like to avoid being political and just point out Mr. Kraft is a billionaire who does good things with his wealth. Also, I would like to mention that the frequently maligned Jeff Bezos, billionaire, just donated $100 million dollars to Feed America. A number of restauranteurs in Boston have banned together and are providing free hot meals to the medical staff of Boston hospitals. It's the "little" things like this that make America great. As you go through your day, keep looking at the "glass half full" and practice random acts of kindness.
(P.S. I'm pretty sure the Patriots picked up the tab for the PPE as well)

I doubt it. This administration sat on its hands for 3 months. This could not have come at a worse time for our country.
Administrators in the past sat on their hands for multiple terms and did nothing to prepare. Having lots of chiefs in charge with no resources to help the people isn't doing something. It's acting like you're doing something to make yourself look good. Not only is the government unprepared, but the people are the same. Hence the panic buying and hoarding. It could definitely have come at a worse time.

Hence the panic buying and hoarding

I just read an article about the TP issue that makes sense, the paper company Georgia Pacific estimates that when a family stays home they use 40% more TP because they are not using it at work or in public. With kids home from school, people home from work we are using more. The supply chain needs to adjust. That does not mean there are not selfish hoarders, but maybe not as many as some think.

Makes sense to me. I can confirm that we are using much less with 3 fewer people than normal at home.

It's not the government's fault citizens aren't responsible for themselves. People just assume everything will be all great and when something happens they dont know how to respond so they freak out. And a certain political affiliation wants nothing more than to have the average american citizen having to count on them instead of being responsible for themselves. Nanny state.
Also it's not all that easy to poop out 10 billion masks and vents no matter how much you want them to.
