It seems logical that booze would also work. Whether it tastes better is debatable; the only alcohol that I've actually liked is a Cherry Beer brought back from Belgium. That might not have a high enough alcohol content? It doesn't matter anyway as I don't know the name or very precisely where it came from. I would probably use salt as an alternative if the taste were intolerable. The guest doctor gave a few alternatives (I don't remember salt being one, though).

I'd never looked into mouth flora. A very brief dip shows it is about as complex as the rest of biology. It seems one of the biggest factors in changes in flora due to regular use of these kinds of mouthwashes is changes in the pH of the mouth in general. That may be part of the reason for the followup rinse.

I think masks, used properly, buy a little time/distance margin. I don't think they are enough by themselves, even if everyone wore them properly.

I don't think the rinsing is enough by itself either. For just one of the other things, immune system health is important too.

Cherry beer sounds delicious. My fav that is hard to get here is authentic mead. Whenever we swing by an international market we pick up Bunratty mead from Ireland. Its like taking a spoonful of honey with a warm zip after you swallow. After I had that I couldnt go back to Oliver's Camelot Mead which is nothing more than white wine flavored with honey imho

It's hard to expect children to wear masks properly when the adults around them often don't.
And having children rinsing their mouths with betadine? No way!!!
Mary
No, of course they should not! I do believe the original poster said that skin-formulated solutions should not be used.
I haven't delved further than a browse on the studies sited, but gleaned that these treatments were of a solution specified for oral use.
Although I did find the article interesting and worth further study ~ I was simply commenting on the mask post
