Could your family weather a depression?

The process of canning is not tough at all if you stick with foods that require sugar. Sugar helps to prevent spoilage so you dont have to worry about botulism. Just stay away from canning veggies and you dont have to have too much talent!

HenSpa, I'm afraid we've taken this way outside the topic of this thread. I'm going to end this direction so it can get back to the topic at had. Thanks for the info.

Well folks, the Dems and Reps arguing over who is going to fix what is just making it worse.

The snowball has fallen and is gaining speed. Get ready for more surprises.

Take all you can and buy food storage, seeds etc... you'll be thankful you did.

Buy some extra chicken feed. Now.

and last but not least... increase your faith in Christ. We will all need that to make it through the next 14 years.

Our basic instinct for survival is kicking in gear.

I, too feel the intense urge to can, pay off debt, and think of small ways to plan for tomorrow. For instance, Im researching plans on how to live off the grid, and thinking of what simple things would be worth a lot in a bad situation.

and eyeing some some fine milking goats. Maybe I can convince hubby we NEED them:)

It's not about the sugar so much as it's about the acidity of what you're canning. The pH balace is the key thing in water bath canning (hence the added citric acid or lemon juice).

Now its even more on my mind. I worked at the hardware store and got laid off, we havent been getting as much business. At the pet store in town they have seen a slow down in business, a friend there said that people arent wanting to spend money on pets like they used to.
All I can say is this sucks, lol
