Nah, the US dollar has not been worth $3 canadian for a loooong time, believe me.... I am going to guess like 10 years? Maybe longer.

A year ago the US dollar was worth something around $1.20 Canadian; right now it is essentially par (equal).

Which in many ways is hard on the *Canadian* economy too, perversely

I'd say that a person's best bets are a) getting as debt free as possible (hopefully 100%), b) sharpening skills (gardening, cooking, repairing, sewing, etc) and c) living NOW as if things were almost as bad as you fear -- that is, getting used NOW to living a life free of soda pop, new shoes, diverse cleaning products, items bought new instead of secondhand, etc.

5 years ago in maine, we had a BIG advertising thingy going on, on the t.v. ,, there big thing was, your $1.50 (sorry forgot the .50 last time
wink.png
) is worth $3 here in nova scotia. was the advert. for the "cat ferry" that went from a few miles from my house to nova scotia. ,,, now its our $1 is worth1.07 canadian, and something like .71 euros ( which started lower then the dollar?) its been in a steady decline for over 10 years. and theres only 1 thing that has to happen to put us in a depression ( which was already threatened to happen if we interfered in the russian/ gorgian conflict a few months ago) all that has to happen is russia to call in its loan,, that we owe them, then china will follow.and sad thing is most people dont even know we have "loans" out that HUGE. and even MORE didnt know it was threatened just a few 2 or 3 months ago.

money isnt going to mean a thing when "it hits". the value will go back to how it was.gold, silver, pelts," your farm goods". trying to spend a dollar will be like going around the world trying to spend a bag of trash. worthless.and land will be of greatest value,, just like back in the "cowboy days". so people saving "money" is going to be very disappointed.. between our declining dollar, and interest rates, and taxes ( that has ALWAYS gone up) the dollar you squirrel away today, if your lucky will be worth .50 in 10 years.
our money "value" is based on "faith" ,,,, how much "faith" do you have in our government?( the gov. does believe "save the people first, not the gov.",,right??) hehe

You know, I've often thought that if some terrorist wanted to really hurt us Americans, all they would have to do is knock out the poower grid - even if they just hit the East Coast it would take out power all through Michigan and down the Mississippi to the gulf.

the terrorist are getting us,,, they know the longer and the more wars they cause us to fight, the weaker and weaker we get.
is also why i believe not 1 u.s. dollar should leave the border ( for humanitarian needs and for buying someone in africa a computer) until WE have NO MORE starving children.

I dont like to think that everything is going downhill but to bury my head in the sand isnt going to help either.Sigh.

All anyone can do is hang tight and try to prepare to the best of their ability.
