I got about half way through and wanted to read the rest but I had too many ideas so I am posting and will read the rest later.
I think that we would be ready for a depression between my family, the neighbors and friends. Where we live we have friends on all sides of us, all of the land is workable with good pasture and a spring a few places away. Around us there are about 100-200 acres of friends, some with cattle, others with nothing. Then there is JJ up the road who is self sufficient already and a great hunting family, lol. I also have great friends a few miles away that live on a little over 600 acres. They have a small goat dairy, lots of beef cattle, 2 creeks, a couple hundred acres in hay and grain, and lots of woods for hunting and wood for burning. Me and my friends have already talked about this and what we could do to survive.
I dont know if anyone else has thought about it, but what about the species? For example would any deer or bison risk going extinct if there was a depression due to over hunting. Also what about some of the exotics like rare pheasants, I could just picture some poor family feasting on a rare great argus or some other rare/almost extinct pheasant species. I know that alot of breeds of domestic fowl would disappear if we had a depression.
