Countdown To Eggs! For June hatches 😊

Pics
These are my oldest pullets. Currently 13 weeks. I’m discounting the Marans pullets simply because they take fooooorever to lay.

I think this pullet is my best bet for early laying. She a RIR X hatchery Ameraucana. She is slightly larger than the other pullets.

These are Blue laced Red Wyandotte mixes (possible colored egg layers).

This is the smallest pullet. She hatched from a small-medium cream colored egg. She appears to have some Brahma influence but is a true barnyard mix. I’d love it if she layer a lighter colored egg.

I have a flock of 10, all hatched in June this year 6/3, 6/10 and 6/21).

Since the first just turned 12 weeks, I am getting excited watching them mature and get their new feathers, while they work out the pecking order.

I am hoping to get an egg by November (worry that light might play a part), but I think October is a possibility! None of mine are production breeds, so I don’t think anyone will be super early.

Feel free to join this thread if you also have June babies, and let’s wait together to see when each of our ladies lays their first egg! Post a pic of the egg and who laid it! (General location would be awesome too, to see if it had any impact). Once the first lays, I’m sure the posts will come flying in!
I have three pullets born on the 16th of June… so excited for the first eggs to be coming sometime soon!

My girls are all June babies:
5 hatched on June 13, so they hit 3 months today (leghorn, barred rock, welsummer, SLW, and sussex)

6 that hatched on June 27 (leghorn, 2 easter eggers, 2 whiting true greens, and a buff orpington)

I'm eyeballing those leghorns hard and hope they actually start to lay on time lol. Most expensive eggs ever, and poor girls are going to start paying the mortgage well before the others!

I’ve chosen my keeper roosters for next year: 2 Black Cooper Marans, 1 Legbar, 1 BYM (my kid’s favorite). I sold 2 BCM roosters yesterday. That leaves 6 spare roosters. Unfortunately plans have changed. We won’t have time to process or a place to store extra meat/broth this year. I’ll probably be given them away tomorrow.

I’m selling off some pullets too. I’d like to get the birds numbers under 25 to overwinter.

Hopefully all this gets me that much closer to a colorful flock. Both plumage and eggs. 😍

I sold two Easter Egger pullets today. They went to the best of homes. To be loved on by a little old lady. Hanging out with her on the front porch getting coddled, talked to, and hand fed treats.

The kicker is they asked about a rooster too. I’d already given away all the spares on Monday. So I sold them a keeper. A sweet, handsome June hatch a long barnyard mix.

I’d like to downsize a couple more pullets before winter but these last ones to go hit me surprisingly hard. I’m taking note and will try to do future sales/culls sooner. Before we are so attached. 😭

Remaining are 21 pullets and 3 roosters.

Even though I said yesterday I wouldn’t I sold 4 more pullets. Again, some favorites, but to another lovely home. The ad is now deleted so I won’t be contacted about selling anymore. This week was a good reminder there are always homes out there for nice roosters (genetics or temperament).

The final count of birds for the new coop is 20 birds: 3 rooster, 17 hens.
