the closest we have come is an Ostrich ^__^ We should write them and tell them they need to make a chicken. That thousands of people keep chickens in their backyard, and it's only natural that a considerable percentage of people own them as pets

Okay, ya'll, I need some advice.

My ex has died and my youngest is devastated. She wants all his shirts and ties. The family has all agreed. We're thinking about making a quilt with them. I also had the idea about making a vest with the ties. Has anyone seen anything like this before, or have any ideas and suggestions? I can't spend much time online so I haven't researched it yet.

She's 13 and has basic sewing skills. Mom and I can help her with it, but I'm afraid she'll want to do everything herself which means simple ideas will be important, too.

I'm posting these here rather than the quilt thread because ya'll are so talented & creative and good at thinking outside the box. Plus, I already check this thread and am limited on time these days... I'm not into quilting, too.

I did make some felted chickens & flowers recently. Thanks, Guitartists, for getting me addicted to a new craft. Slamming a barb into fluffy stuff has been very therapeutic and calming, though!

Cant remember who... but before Christmas, she made a quilt for her mom out of her dad's clothes, shirts, ties, pants, etc.
I'll look for the thread for you.
Sorry about the loss, hug the youngest super tight for me. I know she prolly feels there arent enough tears left inside her for more crying.

ETA: It's Henny'sMom that did the quilt. Couldnt find the original addy, but here's the finished thread...

It is beautiful!

Don't you feel good about finishing it so fast? Are you hooked now? Is quilting going to be a big part of your handcrafting pleasures?

Wow, ya'll are fast!

Thanks Skand & therealsilkiechick, those are a great jumping-off place for us!

We're (DH & I) cleaning out his closets this weekend, and I'll take her all the shirts and ties that we find. She gave him most of the ties every birthday, Father's Day and Christmas for years!

I can't mend my daughters' broken hearts, but I'm going to do as much as is reasonably possible to help them work through the pain they feel.
