Crafters- What are you making???

It is beautiful!

Don't you feel good about finishing it so fast? Are you hooked now? Is quilting going to be a big part of your handcrafting pleasures?

Yes, it's good to have finished it so quickly! I'm hooked.

Already working on a baby quilt and Peanut's quilt!

wegotchickens, I saw a quilt pattern that was just strips of cloth about 2 inches wide and 4 inches long. They staggared each strip so the seams didn't endup together. That might be a simple pattern for your daughter to do. I don't have the book (it was in the library) but I think you can get the idea.

Farmer Kitty, that may be the perfect thing! Easy is really important because she's a strong-willed child and I know she'll opt for doing much of it herself. Thanks!

In one of the quilting threads someone was doing a quilt from her father's suit after his passing. You might look through that thread and see some of the things she did with his silk ties.

I have been watching this tread for a while and have finally decided to join in. I looked for a thread on doll making but didn't find one. There are so many creative people on here! I hope it is O.K. to post here. I am a self taught sewer and have been making stuffed animals and dolls on and off for 6 years or so. Here are a few of my recent works. Sorry I cant share patterns but they have copyrights. Not that I do much following of the pattern.

First, hugs for your DDs at this time. It's never easy for us to lose our dads. Second, many years ago I bought a box of silk neckties at auction and used them to make a vest. Cut them up making yo-yos out of them and pieced the yo-yos together to make the front of the vest. I paper-pieced the back of the vest. I have seen a vest made out of ties that was paper-pieced, both front and back. It makes a very distinctive one-of-a-kind garment.

17Roses, your dolls are wonderful! I tried doing some like that once, stuffing the arms and legs was tough work. What type of fabric did you use to make the dragon? almost looks like leather.

Thank You! My personal least favorite is turning the tiny parts. When in Oregon we lived by a Walmart with fabric and I bought some faux leather for $7 a yard. It looks like lizard skin up close so I made the the dragon and sea monster with it. I use to shop the cheap aisle, those fabrics make good clothes and body fabric for toys / dolls that won't be played with. I especially like working with faux leathers and suedes. It is very challenging in small or complicated patterns.

This is one of the first dolls I made (my son begged me for a doll) and it was out of faux suede

This one is made out of cheap dishtowel material - I haven't dressed her yet.
