Crafters- What are you making???

Thank you, Jean, for the caramel corn recipe, and thanks sundownwaterfowl for the tip on the pine cones. I've got bunches of them, and I've never bothered much with them because I don't like the sap. Now I'll try the oven trick!

BTW, for another popcorn treat, try this: melt white AND chocolate almond bark (separate pans!) until thin and smooth. Pour dark chocolate over popcorn, stirring until evenly coated (the white of the popcorn will show through in places; that's ok -- that's what makes it pretty!). Spread popcorn in a single layer, then drizzle the white chocoalte bark in " ribbons" on top of the dark chocolate. Spread on waxed paper or a cookie sheet for easy cleanup. This is a simple, quick, inexpensive, and VERY tasty treat, and makes a nice gift in a decorative tin or bowl, or put into a cellophane "bowl" and tied with pretty ribbon.

OMG!!!! One day I miss this thread and I have a pile of new things to copy now!!!!! Wow!! That caramel corn looks great!!! I like the pine cone fire starter idea too..you can also soak them in a bucket with liguid potpourri, let them dry out and throw them in a basket for a great smell in the room..the cinnamon is really nice and they are a fortune to buy but the potpourri is only a dollar at dollar tree!!

Thanks for that tip, Scrambled Egg.
I love the smell of the cinnamon pinecones, but have never bought them because they are so dear. I will look for the liquid potpourri the next time I am in town.

Let us know how yours turn out!!! I always burn that liguid potpourri...I know the dollar tree carries apple/cinnamon becasue thats what I buy, the plain cinnamon you might have to spend $1.50 for at Walmart..back in the crafts section. Might make a nice Christmas gift...a basket with lighter knot (the little lighter kindling) ties with a bow, the pine cones (I'm guessing the potpourri would not make toxic fumes if burned), a couple skewers, a bag of marshmellows and wa-la..awesome gift!!!!

I'd read the bag carefully on potpouri if you're going to burn it: Some have preservatives and some have dyes. No telling what those chemicals will do in a fire. Noxious fumes are only part of the problem; you may get something that pops or explodes. I know some brands of potpouri specifically ask that you not boil or burn them.

I went to the local Dollar General Store and it was $1.50 for a large bottle, but they don't carry the cinnamon scent.

The Family Dollar was closed and I haven't tried the other one in town. (Dollar Tree or Everythings a Dollar, or something like that. Can you believe I don't even know the name?!)

That egg ornament is stunning! We just recently blew out our first eggs... not an easy task.. I made the DH do it as he has bigger lungs! LOL I doubt he's feeling too eager to do more

Hahaha

I got some very large and nice fluffy bath towels last year from WMart, and I bought a bunch to sew on a nice strip of decorative fabric on the bottom of each. Will make a nice set for each family member.
I might ad some trim or something else to jazz up some of the towels. I have to make sure I have the current list of how everyones' bath is decorated, so that I can coordinate. I think it will be fun, fairly easy, and appreciated by all. I sure enjoy gifts that are home made, and usable!

This is the liquid potpourri we mean Lori, just soaking the pinecones in it and letting them dry out with that great smell then possibly tossing some in the fire. Yeah that dried potpourri is poisonous to animals too if they eat it so it may be toxic to burn. I am guessing that this wouldn't be since it evaporates in a hot pot anyway but mostly we are talking about just putting them in a basket for the smell. You can buy them already "scented" and they are a fortune so making your own would be a nice gift..wonder if glitter would be nice to mix in the potpourri or would that make people want to kill you for all the vacuuming?! Would be sparkly!!

Love the towel idea with the ribbon trim, my aunt does those, I have a couple Christmas ones from her. Good idea!
