I have been searching high and low for a great banana bread recipe and can not find one that I feel is moist enough. Would you care to share yours pretty please.

Jenlyn- Could you share your tabasco recipe, I have been looking for one. We use all the different flavors almost everyday. The green and chipolte are my favorite!

Scrambled- Last Mother's day I made my Mom ones shaped like mittens, she has RA and OA very bad. Her hands get so bad she can't do anything. I made her two so she could eithr use them at the same time for both hands if need be or put one on top and one on bottom for one hand. They help her a lot. I made a long skinny one for her to wrap around her bad knee.

I didn't know about the cherry pits. I used basmati rice as I had a 50# sack of it. I don't like the smell when you heat it up. Wouldn't the pits make it heavy though? When DH's bad back is bothering him, it is very tender, sometimes even the regular heating pad is too much.

Any rice EXCEPT the minute rice or pre-cooked or those that cook in less than 20 minutes.

Corn has to be whole, feed corn - really cheap - but you have to buy a HUGE bag.

I've used Buck-wheat husks as well - it doesn't hold the heat AS long but its nice.

You can put the rice bags in the freezer as well - for like a cold pack - but you need to put the rice bag in a zip lock or something or it will get moist.

Scrambled, I bet you could find a way to make one without sewing, find a little draw-string bag or something, and be very careful not to tip and spill the beans

I wonder if you could use one of the spray adhesive products. I see them in my sewing catalogs I have used them on a few things but not anything that gets heated. I don't know if it is heat resistant. If so,that would be another wa to make them without sewing.

I also found they will hold the heat or the cold much longer than the rice etc.. but again they are more expensive and that can be a drew back for many of our Christmas budgets!

A note regarding the rice bags....

I had Torticollis (a horrible neck condition where I couldn't lift my head, even to drink from a glass, VERY painful) several years ago. My mom made a rice bag for me that was long enough to cover my neck as well as go down the length of my back. It was the BEST thing in the WORLD!! Nuked it in the microwave for a few seconds and total, complete bliss!

Only bad thing about it was that the weavels and bugs found their way to the rice (I have no clue what kind of rice she used). She started using recleaned feed corn instead and we've never had a problem since.

She now makes them in squares, rectangles, rounds, any shape for the small of your back, or on your upper back. She also makes them horseshoe shaped to wrap around your neck.

They can be a bit heavy, though with the corn, so she is careful not to make them too large.

They also work wonders kept in the freezer for my migraines as well.

PERFECT gift idea!

You gals are right on the ball with the rice heating bags, My Dr had told me to make one for myself as I had injuried my shoulder when falling off my horse due to loose saddle girth(my fault). It was wonderful I still use a smaller one as I am prone to ear aches this time of ear. I had never thought of cherry pits, I wonder if peach pits would work as well? Sounds like a great addition to some gift baskets.

Now my corn bag, for the lack of the real name for these, is heated on high for a full five minutes and stays hot for hours. I use it on my dh's feet during the winter when he just can't seem to get them warm. They work great for sinus headaches, too. I absolutely love them!! Deb, they just require simple sewing on the machine because, believe me, I don't sew either.
