Not the greatest pic, but gives a fair representation of the concept, I think. I did 4 for fall and 4 or 5 for Christmas.
They really turned out pretty, I think.
Sara, the quilt top is gorgeous! Is that the Rail Fence pattern? I did a Broken Rail Fence for my BIL/SIL several years ago. Didn't turn out nearly as nice as your's is, though!
ETA, it's hard to see, but on the red centerpiece, I had a gap between the gold and green ornaments. The glue sets SO quickly that I couldn't adjust them, so I had to improvise. I really want to put a broken glass bulb ornament on this one from the start, but DD nixed the idea (pre-teen........UGH!! LOL). Got my way anyway because I broke a silver ornament and used the hanger cap and wire along with a couple larger pieces with a fabric leaf to fill the space. The pic doesn't do that justice, but I liked the way it turned out.
whew, I finally made it though this thread. That's saying alot with the ol' dial-up.
Here's an idea my sil gave me years ago. Take a 'new' little round chick feeder and a new canning jar and fill it with holiday colored small candies. You could decoupage a cute design (maybe a chicken) on the jar --upside down-- if you see what I mean. and maybe ribbon or raffia around the feeder. I like the way the metal looks- but you might want to fille the bare metal edges. The new yellow plastic ones are cute too.
I use mine for the kids parties and fill it with trail mix or m n m's.
WOW!! Alot going on here the last two days!! Very nice centerpieces!! Gorgeous quilt! Great idea for the frappacino, definately would be cheaper than the nearly 3 bucks a bottle bought ones!! The feeder with the trail mix in it would have been PERFECT in my chicken wire baskets last year!!!! Next time I do chicken soaps I can make some more baskets from chickens wire and maybe use those feeders with bath salts in them? That would work with the soap theme..great suggestion there with the feeder, thanks! Those centerpieces look like good recycling to me, may be wrong but bowls and lids? What are the bases? Very clever!! Lori, looked at LCRT's thread you linked...waaaaaaaayyyyy too much trouble for me!!! Very nice end result but nah, not my "thang", lol!! Dang, it took me 3HOURS to pop the guts out of a box of muscadines (including picking the stems off and my husband felt sorry for me and helped with that and the washing!) and then skimming out at least a pound or more of little seeds (chickens are eating those now!!) but, I have it made and it tastes like welch's grape juice!!! Only have the canning left to do this morning. Making salsa to can today too...have a great day..keep those crafty ideas coming..with Chritmas nearing, folks should be thrilled to have this thread active!!!
Here's a good link for anyone wanting to make their own vanilla extract. Really is the way to go. Much cheaper than buying it. I got my beans on eBay. They were super plump and very inexpensive. When my bottle gets down to about half left I just top it up with more plain vodka. Enjoy!
Moonbeam, you are my hero!! I use tons of vanilla and almond extracts. I wonder, do I just put some almonds into a bottle of vodka? I am so excited over this bit of knowledge you shared with us. THANK YOU
Your welcome, Ozark. Anytime I have a vanilla bean I've 'scraped' I toss it into the vanilla bottle along with the others in there. My brew just gets better and better over time. I have no idea how to make homemade almond extract, though. Anyone else have any ideas about that?
The centerpieces are made completely of plastic ware, with the exception of jar lids.
Jar lid glued to bowls (one is inverted and glued rim to rim to a second bowl); bowls glued to an inverted drinking glass; glass glued to a plate. Then spray paint and decorate however you'd like. I used the little scented candles for these, but any candle that will sit safely will work.
Mom suggested this morning putting a globe around the candle to add a bit more 'class'. Great idea! Not sure why I can't think of these things.
I had a couple that the paint ran on. In the future, I'll cover the area of the run with spray adhesive and glitter or a broken glass bulb.

Hey if ya peel the paint run and then sand it smooth with an emery board ya can repaint it with out a blob. Now that didn't sound right but ya understand what I mean right. (blame it on the pain pills LOL)
