Crafters- What are you making???

Pics
I think I'm going to make a few of those rice bags - I made the kids some, and today myself (its COLD)

The kids take them to bed everynight after a few seconds in the microwave.....

Wildsky, what kind of rice do you use? I received one of those corn filled bags a couple years ago and dh and I use it often for sore muscles, etc. I would like to have more of them around here. does anyone know what kind of corn is used? I mean could I use some cracked corn from the chickens feed barrel? LOL I think the rice would be "softer"?

Here they use the deer feed corn, can use any dried bean or pea as well. When you find those nice weaved place mats on clearance it is smart to scoop those up.

I have made them using cherry pits and they are awesome! You don't get the smell like you sometimes do with rice as it gets older and you keep putting in the microwave.
I can't rem. where I got the pits but it was off the internet so I guess you could just Google it. Of course, that would make it more expensive to make.....although I recall the pits were not that much, you just had to buy a lot of them! They are great made out of anything esp for people with arthritis etc.

I did an edit to give the link to buy the pits! http://www.cherrypitstore.com/

Seriously, thanks for the site. Yes, the corn one I have does put off an odor now.
I went to the site and am going to order some to make another one for us. I am anxious to try these, thanks again.

Are ya'll talking about a sewn together (which of course, being "sewn" means I can only admire this craft from afar, lol!!!!!) square filled with the pits/rice/corn? I am assuming you heat them to use like a heating pad? I am not sure I've ever seen one. How long would something like that hold heat? Sounds like a practical gift!

I use the cheapest rice I can find. Works great. Only fill the bag/ sack about 2/3 full or they are too hard. I am making some for Christmas gifts as well. They can also be placed in the freezer for ice packs that stay pliable. Add a cute little note card letting people know how to use them. I am making a long thin one and a short fat as a set. One for the neck and one for the back or whatever. I may throw in an extra for the freezer. I would put the freezer one in a plastic bag to prevent odor transfer.

This year for my Knitted gift I am making Warm colorful hats, they are fast fun and useful. I am going to include a jar of the jams, jellies and preserves I have been making all year. I also want to include some of my home made goats milk soap. I have lots of frozen ripe bananas in the freezer I have been saving from grocery store quick buys to make lots of loaves of my homemade banana bread (which is an absolute Favorite in my family). Im also going to be making sugar cookies and probably finally break out my bread oven and make some fresh home made loaves of bred. Thats all I can think of for now. Oh and bottles of homemade pepper/ tabasco sauce.

Yes Scrambled you would have to learn to sew LOL They stay hot for about 20 minutes. I made really small ones for my grandkids they are great for ear aches and when the teeth are coming in just put them down for a nap and when they are sleeping slip it under their head. I always make a fleece slip cover as that helps protect from the hot hot of when they first come out of the microwave.
