Crafters- What are you making???

Wow! I have just spent the last hour reading this thread and writing down all that I want to do!!!

I have already started my gifts for this year. I am making "green" baskets. I take a large basket that I have been purchasing at thrift stores, garage sales, or that kind of thing and filling it with things to help everyone be more environmentally friendly. (Some of my family members need a little help in this area). They are filled with...Hand knitted dishclothes, a mason jar filled with the laundry soap that was on a different thread, florescent light bulbs, jars of jelly and or jam, and whatever else I come up with between now and then. Maybe I will try to make soap. Reading this thread has me thinking that might be a nice addition!!

I havn't read all the post going to do that later today after art class.
Got to look more closely at the bowls I have some old records somewhere.
Everyone is so inventive, I think I can already smell that soap.

I got a "mini" wood lathe for my birthday and I'm getting pretty good at making custom hardwood pen and pencil sets.
I also know how to knit (yes, im secure in my manhood)

, so...
Everybody gets a knit cap, scarf, and a pen set, all hand made by me!

My family was never really big on "buying" christmas prizes. When I lived at home (alabama) I used to bake everybody Coconut cakes. I switched to non-perishables because they don't hold up well in shipping from CA to AL. Especially if they get lost at UPS for two weeks.

I love the "green" basket idea and yes, you can find lots of baskets at the thrift stores.....did you see the chicken wire baskets I made last Christmas? That's pretty "green" to recycle!! They make great potato and onion basksts in the kitchen too. Like the pen and pencil set Wonder but that lathe is a specific talent that would have me cutting off my fingers I bet!! I tried a router once and my husband stroked when he saw how I was holding it and then he hid it!! GUess he didn't think it would be too sexy to have a wife with knubs!!! Cool on the mint root too...nice touch to any basket!!!

I love this thread like crazy..everyday somone has a new and great idea!!!!

WHOOOO HOOOO!!! Album Bowls!!!! I had to heat my oven at 300 instead of 200 and bake them more like 4 minutes andI heated them in a big metal bowl, grabbed them out with a pot holder..yes hot!!..and slammed them down with my fist in a small metal bowl to get the shape..waited a few tillthey cooled and took them out...had to trash one because I kept mashing it against the sides of the metal bowl and globbed up the vinyl....a bit of practice and I might get it down pretty good!! Didn't smell much at all..course I did run the oven fan but I expected worse.
I have 5 bucks invested in this effort and threw out one bowl so I figure pretty cheap for a cute idea..I will get some more..and a tip here..LOOK at the records before you buy becasue the shiny ones look better than the thicker dull ones!!! Here are mine....

Glad they turned out well for you. Sorry I forgot to warn you to use potholders. They look great and you're right - great gifts for a small investment! And it's lots of fun trying to decide what to put in them!

I haven't tried this yet, but I had the impression that you inverted a bowl and melted them over the outside of it. Which is the correct/easiest procedure?
I am not very crafty.
