Cream Legbar Hybrid Thread

I am updating the photos of my two CL cross with Ameracaunas. This is at 2.5 weeks. I am completely happy with the two chicks.... they are healthy and bright. I am just hoping that neither is a rooster because our next door neighbors (even though I have acreage) live very close to me and both are quite elderly and have severe health problems. We have always been considerate of them, keeping our side very quiet even with four teenagers! Roosters would be a big problem. Here is a photo of the two now. (BTW, the breeder did say that there may a Bielefelder in the mix but with the blue legs, I feel pretty sure I have at least one CL - Ameraucauna hybrid. )

So you thinking just one roo because of the barring?

In these photos I am thinking that just the gray one is a rooster but I am basing that on their behavior and their comb sizes. I had four of the gray ones and as day old chicks three of them had big white spots on top of their heads. Those three are definitely males while the fourth which just left might be a pullet.

From what I have seen the Rose Comb Brown Leghorn/Cream Legbar crosses are not sex linked as they all had a tiny white head spot when hatched and at 3 1/2 weeks they are starting to show that they are not all males.

Interesting but only a roo could have defined barring feathered like that?

This depends on which way you make the cross .For sex link barring to work the hens need to be barred ( Legbar ) and the rooster not barred ( Brown Leghorn ) .

That is what I also understand but I used a legbar rooster over brown leghorn hens. Personally, I was not trying to make a sex link but rather a rose comb blue egg layer.

When done that way they are all single barred and not sexable at hatch .
That's been my experience not sexable at hatch but sexable once weathers come in roo will show barring hens won't
Definitely keep us posting because I'm curious used its the same with yours

I bought eggs of off eBay to hatch. They were Cream Legbar rooster over CL hens, blue Americana, Black Copper Marans, and some others. Out of 11 four made it to lock down and 3 hatched. No CL :-( Any guesses at mommas?

This is the screen shot of sellers set up.

The two on the left hatched from blue eggs and have pea combs. The black in the right hatched from a normal brown egg and has a single comb with, I think, fluffy cheeks.
