Cream Legbar Hybrid Thread

Ah, I see. Now I know what you meant when you said above that dominant white is better at removing black than red. The black disappears completely, but the red just fades. So then, does it make a difference if there is one copy of dominant white vs two copies? (Is it complete dominance or incomplete?)
One copy can leave some black specks . Here is another color for you . In Millie Fleur the addition of dominant white turns it into Gold Neck as in Belgian D'uccle . This hen is based on black with one copy dominate white .
Ah, interesting. Some of my chicks do have a few random spots. Well now I had to go and look up Belgian Mille Fleur d'Uccle and Golden Neck genetics!

Those EE hens that you are talking about. They are not Red Pyles.

They are a Blue Red Splash. The white part on them are usually Blue but blue not being able to breed true they produce Blue Red= 50%, Black Gold=!25% and Splash= 25%.

I've had so many of those on the past. Produced a lot of them too.

I understand how the black-blue-splash genetics works, but I am not familiar with a Red Splash. It is already established that my EE hen cannot be double factored, whatever the gene may be, because she only passed it to half of her offspring, not 100% of them.

Now I'm going to have to go look up Blue Red Splash as well.

Ok, I'm back from some reading up, and I learned that Blue Red Splash does NOT mean a splash version of red. It just means a black breasted red wherein the black areas are either blue or splash. And the red is mostly unaffected.

And I also learned that the effect of the blue-splash genes on these red birds can mimic the effect of Dominant White, so that the Blue Red Splashes and Red Pyles look very similar to each other.

That explains why my hen looks like both. But she can't be a Splash, because then all of her chicks, when mated to the CL rooster, would be blues, but they are not.

Sorry to jump in on this conversation, I'm new to the sex link projects and I was wondering if I read this correct... if I put a Black Copper Marans rooster over Cream Legbar hens I will get sex link chicks? Like Black Stars? Is this because of the barring gene in the hens? I understand you need a barred hen. I did not realize this combo would work. Thanks for your input.

You are exactly correct... and Legbar hens are barred, hence why it works... :)
