i knew that you were working on them, and i seen others show interest. I know banty brown leghorns would be best. I mainly have a huge interest in what a cross with jearhon would produce. The males have basically the same look if you just switch the black and grey for white. And i like the wing bays of the jearhon. Are jearhon opposite though females are double barred and males single. Or am I wrong. Also in my initial question i was hoping to get some knowledge on genetic diffrences and how the crosses would turn out looking. And which sex of which breeds should i use toget the coolest looking results. There are already a couple folks working on bantam legbars, I know 2 of the breeders used bantam brown leghorns
it is hilarious. We can call the changedup version production and the original heritage. I think most people like the history of the breed and want to keep it as close to the original as possible. Light class egg layer. is certain Farms or breeders want a different bird they can become well known for producing a off variety. If people want dual purpose they know to go to DC chickens. I don't think they should look any different. Nor do I really see a need for a name difference or a diffrent sop,. Its as simple as fallowing the same sop but advertising at your farm yours are grown bigger form is slightly different to produce a dual purpose CCL.Steen - Interesting idea I had not contemplated this direction..... hmmm something to really think about - tiny Leggies!

It is not changing the breed. There are two views on the original intent of the breed. Some read Punnet's work and see layers. Others (myself included) think the intention was dual purpose as all birds of that era were usually used as dual-purpose. I have memories of my grandparent's Leghorns and they were more dual-purpose rather than the hybrid laying only version we have now.this really is a pointless argument. An SOP is needed for people who want to show chickens. Showing a chicken does not require it to be able to be eaten or produce meat. dual purpose is for farmers and people who want to have self subsistence. To me I don't know why a dual purpose breeder cares about showing Birds. It seems strange someone would want to change a breed just because they want dual purpose.
