Cream Legbars

After an uncertain journey from Papabrooder (left CA Sat PM and went missing in the USPS system-probably on a dock in the heat baking-and showed up in Denver Tuesday am

) my Cream Legbar eggs that I ordered back in February are now in the incubator.

My luck with shipped eggs is really poor, but I am hoping with all of the extras he sent that it will make up for the USPS damage (ruptured air sacs and damaged chalazae). They are due to hatch on my 50th birthday so either I really will have something to celebrate or I will be having a really suck-y birthday. I'll keep y'all posted as the eggs develop....or not.
So out of 28 eggs I had 2 healthy chicks hatch--a girl and a decently colored boy! 10% hatch rate, but they will join the 2 girls I got to hatch from Steen's eggs so now I have the start of a flock

What a beautiful pair! You have worked hard for them and have the beginnings of a nice flock.

Meet Arthur and Clara:

what color are the ladies so far. Ive been getting golds and light silver colored hackles so far. Im very nervous as the oldest and only cream looking chick i have left after coyote attack is still on a constant free range. she was a broody hatch and still finds ways to slip threw the fence. she seems to found a safe haven under a rather large and bushy pine tree.

What beautiful babies! Please keep the pictures coming.

For those in the Southern states or areas that are just plain hot!!! how are your CLBs doing? I lost one baby who snuck into the big pen while we were out of town, but she just wasn't ready to be around the big birds. My CLBs are taking the heat well. I've lost two Barnies in the past month to heat, so I was curious as to how everyone else's birds are doing?

P.S. Chocolate and Cider are out of the "Holding Out Egg Club" (HOEC) at 24 weeks! Any new hens looking to fill Jett's previous position as president?

My CLBs are doing fine. None of them seem to be struggling with the heat which is great. I was worried about them! However, my Silkies are not doing so great. We lost a few this week because of heat and are having to add more shade to their already shady areas.

Steen - I hear your concern - I lost most of my older cream legbars to a coyote attack a few days ago, I have only one survivor with cream hackles and a beautiful blue egg. My cockerel took a beating, he's off to the vet today because I can't decide if he's doing better or worse. I have some pullet eggs I could hatch from this group, but I was planning to wait until the fall so the parents would be about a year old. Any thoughts on whether to hatch or not?
