Cream Legbars

. . . . My dumb A@@ cl rooster has been battling me again after a few months of being nice. He seen my first chick i ever hatched (a roo) kick me and instantly went back to his old ways. So i didnt want to upset them by catching and weighing my 2 year olds.

After yesterdays CL fight with me, one of my Ameraucana roosters started fighting me and he was the 2nd nicest rooster I have. He liked to be pet and be next to me. Today in a seperate pen where the naughty roosters cant even be seen my jearhon rooster decided to attack me. Then going into the big hen house that same amdraucana rooster fights me again.

I dont know if their getting fiesty thinking it might be spring. Maybe hearing and seeing other roos thdy cant get to makes them mad. What ever the case is im good to roosters even the mean ones. I might just get the axe out soon though. It makes me so mad.

Stop wearing that Armani scent and use Old Spice. Roosters like Old Spice.

It is not trans-ovarian so the eggs will be Mareks free. You can incubate and vaccinate before setting the new chicks outside and regrow your flock that way. Bio-security will be tantamount.
I don't have anywhere Marek's free to hatch them out unfortunately. And I have 18 girl hatch eggs in the new incubator too. Unless I vaccinate eggs. Something us telling me just let the chips fall on this one and keep a closed flock. I think that's what it's down to.

Quote: Could you not just spay some Oxine or a mild bleach on the outside of the eggs to kill the virus and clean the incubator????? I don't know that it is that hearty it would survive after being cleaned. If you vaccinate the chicks they would have some resistance and I think they would get some resistance from the parents too.

I don't think you can even wash them with water and expect them to hatch. The egg has a "bloom" on it deposited by the hen when it is laid that needs to be there. But they will hatch Marek's free because the incubator is free from dander dust that carries the virus. I could vaccinate them straight out of the incubator but it takes some time for resistance from the vaccine to build up and I don't have anywhere Merak's free to raise them a while and to do that. Might possibly work something out this spring but not with any certainty as it can travel a mile or more on dust in the wind.

You can spray them with Oxine and they will hatch fine. DON'T WASH them. How long do you have to worry about marek? I know a lady local that got some birds from an auction with MG and she had to cull her ENTIRE flock even though she quarantined the new birds. She can't have any new birds till spring 6 months on the ground. I would think you could use a cardboard box to brood them and if it is just a few months..... but I am just grabbing straws here trying to help and I don't know you farm..... At mine I could keep them off the outside ground for a year if needed.

That is very kind of you to think of ideas but it isn't about the ground it's about dust in the air and wind and dust are synonymous with this place! I should certainly just get a box and do my best with the new chicks you are right! It can only be better than doing nothing. The virus lives in the environment for a year so I'm told. It's very very contagious. Will be in my clothes and hair from infected birds. Very hard to control if you interact with infected birds. That is part of what makes me think fighting it with vaccine might not be feasible for me I may just need to keep those that are resistant and keep a closed flock. And infected birds that fight it off will shed it for life I've been told.

I would check with someone that REALLY knows how long it would live. The lady with MG thought it would be a year too but the State and the Vets all assured her 6 months would be fine. NOT THAT I AM SAYING 6 MONTH.... but just get that info from someone that really should know and not the internet. I use Oxine on EVERYTHING. Love the stuff. I would PRESSURE wash and the clean everything with Oxine.... REGULARLY.

I had a roo that got Mareks (I think) and he survived but was lame. No one else got it ever. The only reason I know it was Mareks his eyes changed to gray.... and the lame thing too. I did research it some and know that birds that survive pass on resistance to the chicks... that is good.
