I like your rooster only question is how is the blue going to work through? I would try him on the Red and Buff.. I saw your wheaton on the MFC thread and since they came from MF lines I would think some white or mottled/mf pattern would pop up at some point. I personally wouldn't use the partridge not that she's not nice look because she is nice but wonder how the pattern would come through with the barring gene too.. BTW that's just my thougt as I don't know much when it comes to genes.. I'm sure some of the others can help you out there tho

Ha Ha. Well I don't actually own a red hen. I have the buff and the wheaten but no red. I do have a very nice partridge hen but I don't know if that would help or hinder.

I would use the partridge as well, since we don't have black breasted red cochins(which is what is needed for TRUE crele). Of course there will be lots of culling.

Here is a few Crele project chicks that hatched yesterday. I am really excited to see the one chick with the light spot on the top of the head develop. Crele chicks have the light spot,but they are striped too, these with light spots are the solid reddish chicks. There is another one with a tiny light spot too. I'll just have to wait and see what develops. The are Partridge\\Wheat based F2's.

so after perusing this thread, it looks like you need duckwing and black-breasted red with the obvious barring gene to get the crele color? Am I understanding this correctly?

On true crele chicks you can also sex them once they dry, there is a big color difference. Now I don't know if will see it on non-BBR based birds, but hopefully we will get close enough to Crele one day that it will. We'll have to keep up-dating pics as the chicks grow so we can compare. Are your chicks with the white spot on the head, striped chicks ?

I also have a smooth brother to my frizzle that I kept as a back up. I am thinking of putting him in with the hen and see what he might produce. I will also get a pic of him and post it. He has less color than my frizzle roo, kinda like leaking red.

The chicks I have with the light/white spot are both chipmunk & black barred. Do you have any chicks that are relatively "brown" but with various shades of barring in brown & black? In my black barred chicks, I have some that are very dark & others that are almost a grey barred. I just wish they would grow more quickly so that I can see results~!

The chicks I have with light spots are reddish solid chick..they are too young and don't have wing feathers yet. I do have a older group outside but I don't remember any light spots on those. I am with you, I wish they would hurry up and feather out...LOL
The black barred chick should normally have light spots. I would keep an eye on the chipmunk chicks with light spots..

Wouldn't the light chicks indicate double factor barring and the dark chicks single factor? If so, the double factor light ones would be males, right? And am I right in assuming that the "chipmunk stripes" indicate a pattern?
