Crochet "Chat"

I like the idea of the crochet "chat" I've been making afghans, mostly granny square variety for my grandchildren so they have something to remember "granny" by. Last year I made all the grand daughters one, that was 5, plus one for my daughter in NC. I also made 3 grandsons each one. This year I'm working on more grandson's afghans. I made one for my grandson that bought his first house and he's a bachelor at 25. I di a flower one for my daughter in WA and one for a future daughter-in-law and another is almost finished of one for a future grand daughter. I have 3 more I need to make for grandsons and hope to get them done in time for Christmas. I started this to use up yarn and now I have twice as much as I had before.

You can crochet them together using the chain three slip stitch in the next square and then chain three back into the first square. Or you can join them as you finish the last round of the block you're working on by doing a chain one, slip stitch into the previous square, chain one and continue your pattern until you're ready to connect back to the other square. I do this when I'm doing granny squares and it comes out well.

Loved your photos of the garden and your menagerie. I only have 10 hens and a rooster but maybe later I'll add more. I have a garden also. I live in the high desert in CA with a lovely view of the mountains to the west and I have veggies planted as well as flowers and trees. We moved here three years ago after we retired and love it. Our hot, dry, windy weather is a challenge to gardening but the roses, beareded iris love it and I even got a peony to bloom this year.

Sounds nice and lovely... dont know if I could live in the desert, it gets hot enough here, lol. We moved to the country almost 2 years ago from city life and LOVE it soooo much more and I think its better for our kids. I would NEVER want to move back... got my own piece of heaven on earth

Thanks about my pics. I love to share my life through my pictures with everyone... dont like keeping it to myself, I love doing the blog. This is our 1st time with chickens... going great.

Very nice Queen. She's my favorite. I love the pink.

Just popping in to say hi really quick. I put up my sewing machine for the weekend. NO more saddles for a day or two. Going to enjoy the weekend with my family or until they drive me crazy.

I have 5.....yes 5 broodys laying on eggs.

They each only have a few eggs. I don't have room for a bunch of chicks. Everyone says that they turn mean and hiss and carry on but mine are as gentle as can be. My sizzle has been laying on hers for 22 days and nothing. She kept leaving the nest but my cochins are due soon and they don't ever leave their eggs. I don't think my sizzle eggs are going to hatch.
I will post pics when they hatch. I can't wait.

July 1st I should have some from my dear Lady my blue cochin. My silkie who is without a roo is even broody. I gave her some eggs from my standard hens. They will be bigger than her.

It is nearly 100% here today, my chickens are panting and I have the only 2 small fans I own on them, my big one died and I haven't even really thought till now about replacing it since it hasnt been this hot. The have alot of shade over their pen so hopefully they will be ok, tomorrow should be hot too and then back to normal I think. Gonna be sooooo hot for Travis in that driving suit, that always worries me. We're outta here in a bit so have a great day ya'll. Hey..I started that starburst marymaxim afghan that I posted the link for a few days ago..I HATE the yarn that came with it..it's stretchy and sort of thin...might pull it out and make the thing out of yarn in my stash that's fatter and has less give in it, it has no weight at all to it, now I know why the kit was so cheap!!!

We don't get the humidity that you get so it doesn't seem as hot as it is. We also don't get fleas or mosquitos but we do get scorpions, bobcats and coyotes.

Thanks. I plan on it. I got another broody today. She pecked syd half to death...she's not happy about you touching her eggs. It's contagious in the coop. What am I going to do? Sell them?

They will go to good homes or else. These are like grandkids to me.

it sounds like you have one happy rooster.

I am sooo excited!!! I know for some of you on here this will be like normal life but for me it is the first time so....Whoo Hooo!! My hen has hatched the very first egg ever on my mini chicken farm!! She has only been sitting on "her" 7 eggs for 20 days but I saw a little bb red peaking out from under her today! Another hen sat on them for a day and a half befor my son scared her off then I gave them to my only BO hen. They are safe in a pen where my chicken terrorizing son can't touch them. I have always just bought my chicks already hatched from local breeders or hatcheries befor so this is soooo cool!

Can't wait for the others to hatch. I hope they all live. I really didn't think any of them would after the first hen gave them up.
Should I just leave them alone for a few days or do I need to check under the hen and see how many have hatched in a day or 2? If she will let me that is. She is already growling at me something awful.
