Crochet "Chat"

The eggs look great!!!!!!! I have some birdhouse gourds I could do the same to.....need the time....maybe after the holidays. I bought my DH his big present today. I got him a lap top table. He's been using an end table and it must be hard on his back. I kniited hia sleeveless v' neck vest but I need to block it before I wrap it. I love Christmas, even though all my children can't be with me. Maybe because I didn't have Christmas much as a child before I came to the US. With seven children, even when money was ght we had such fun and celebration. Hope all of you are about ready. I still have a few things to buy for the two littleist grandchildren and another gift card and then I'm done. I plan on making fudge this weekend and Christmas cookies.

love my chicks wrote
forgot: Hubby got put back on day shift. I'm so excited. I have pretty much raised these kids on my own because of our schedule differences. Can't wait~ Best gift I could ask for. Having my family together.

That is so great for your family! I would HATE to raise my 4 by myself!

Algo - Those eggs are BEAUTIFUL! I love the charlie brown ones!!!!!

baustin - We grew some birdhouse gourds this summer... I need to work on them.

Hi Algo, Looks like I need to check my spelling before I hit send. Wow! I guess u could understand it but I have to say it looks bad. You can be as nosey as you like. Asking questions is how you learn. I was born in the UK in 1940 at the start of WWII so all my years of believing in Father Christmas was during the war and there just wasn't much to be had. My mother and I were the only members of our family to survive the war and we came to the US in 1948. The early years here were rough and we lived in one room flats for a long time and there wasn't much money. My mother died at the age of 46 but by then I was married and had two little ones. Even though I doubt if any of the family will come to visit before Christmas I have my house decorated inside, a tree, and lights outside. I do it for me mostly because we live out of town and have few neighbors but what few we have seem to enjoy the lights outside. When we go to town I have my DH drive around the neighborhoods so I can see how other houses are decorated and one of the churches in town has a children's program that we go to see. The children are so cute. It brings me great joy and happiness. It doesn't matter much about the presents, I just like the decorations. As a little girl we weren't allowed to show lights. Have to tell everyone, I bought two English parakeets and two canaries on Friday. The male canary wakes me every morning just singing away. I still have hummingbirds and usually have three during the winter and also a little verdin that's really cute. He likes the hummingbird food.

WOW! Thanks for sharing your story baustin. So glad you were able to get out of there and find a better life.
My 2yo is getting old enough that he notices the lights now. When we drive home from my mothers on Sunday night we spend the whole drive home looking for Christmas lights. Every time we find a house with them I will slow down and he shouts LIGHTS! LIGHTS! Well actually screams it lol.
I can't believe you still have humming birds coming around. They would be hummingcycles around here. Frozen solid.

Thanks Algo, It gets down in the teens here in winter and most of the hummers leave for warmer climates but there are three that stay year round and the cold does'nt seem to bother them. My neighbors have them also. Last summer I was able to count 12 hummers. There might have been more but they dart around so fast it's hard to keep up wih them. About a 45 minute drive from here in Lake Isabella is a bird sanctuary and down by the river where all the trees are there are hundreds of hummers during the summer. They have a hummingbird festival every year in April and do a bird count. Talk about count! It's getting close to Christmas. I made a quilted countdown to Christmas last year at a quilting class. It's on a 3 piece metal stand about 18" high and you change the numbers to reflect the days left until Christmas. I changed it to nine this morning. I bet all the little ones are getting excited. Back to crocheting......I started another baby afghan for a friends baby due in June. I sent out 4 afghans for Christmas and forgot to take pics. Shame on me! Hope everyone has a good day!!!!!!!

Everything was just great. Great choice in ornaments. My tree is all snowman ornaments and snowflakes and I got 4 handmade ornaments. Beautiful crocheted snowfake. They look beautiful on my tree.
A bunch of yarn, a furry scarf, a nice necklace, hotpad, and for my sweet tooth some yummy cookie bars. Blake got into them too. lol. Thank you so much and perfect gifts. You couldn't have done any better to match my tastes.

I got my SS box today too & it was packed with some very nice goodies...thank you Baustin! Inside were potholders (just like I wanted) & coordinating dish cloths, a cross stitch bookmark (very pretty), some new hooks (can always use more hooks), a skein of yarn (feed the addiction), and..........a crocheting/knitting bag (big enough to hold an afghan in the making) made with chicken fabric...I LOVE it! Baustin, a little chickie must have told you that I've been looking for a project bag...this one is perfect! Thank you again!

When I make the potholders I make two of them and crochet them together. I could pad them like I do the cloth ones I make but didn't think they needed it. I took a Christmas goodey quilt class last year and we took Christmas kitchen towels and cut them into shapes of holly and pears and made potholders. We placed padding in them and a product I forget the name right now) (it's called a senior moment) that is silver on one side and padded on the other to reflect heat. It works quite well for that purpose. I've never used it for the crocheted ones.

All of it is handmade...except I didn't blow the glass for the ornaments haha
Glad you liked it! Do you mind if I post pics? I took a few pics of some of the items since I usually take pics of what I make.

Baustin, your story is inspiring

When I make potholders, I chain 32 and then single crochet in the first chain from hook. Then single crochet all the way around without turning. Then turn inside out and when the edges meet, take a huge sewing needle and join the two sides together. This provides a double layer and they always work great for me. I learned this pattern from my grandma. It's the first thing I learned how to crochet.

I just have to do another brag on the project bag you sent me Baustin...I've got it filled with an afghan I'm working on & it's absolutely perfect. It's a project that uses 6 different yarns & I've got the skeins lined up in the bag & just use 'em from there...keeps things way more tidy...plus it's MUCH nicer than plastic grocery bags!
