It's challenging! I just started learning too but with all the pictures and support on here I've picked up quite a bit. I learned more from our members and a book than I ever did from my mom lol!

Congrats on the Leap Pads.

Yea, me too. My Mom doesn't crochet at all. She did used to sew a little though. She says she doesn't need to now. She brings all her sewing to me.

Red, I would sew little clear crystals into the centers of those flowers for a little bit of bling (the kind with a hole for threading onto jewelry). Don't glue them since that is a choking hazard but sew them securely with a knotted finish so the thread doesn't unravel. Or leave them as is, they are adorable!!!

Where did everyone go? I just found this thread and read up from mid-March....and then it disappeared into the great blue yonder....lol. If anyone at all is still watching the thread, I'd love to introduce myself. I'm a military wife, mom of 4 (3 gals and 1 boy), and I love to crochet! Loving it doesn't really mean I'm talented, but I hold my own. I was obsessively completing projects this winter and then when I thought I was going to be consumed by yarn, I put it all up in an array of rubbermaid tubs, and forgot it existed. Until now! I'm searching for something fun to do right now, but have no babies to gift to, and well, it's not exactly hat and mittens weather anymore.

Anyone have spring/summer ideas? Or should I just get a jump on the fall and winter?

I think all of us are busy right now with gardening and baby chicks and end of school year. Not as far as school goes. I'm a grandma and have to say I'm glad all my children are out of school and have their own families. The grandchildren are fun though. We just finished the spring floral swap as you know and pretty soon something else will come up. I like to crochet blocks in the summer as it's too hot to hold a full afghan on my lap. I wait until cooler weather for putting them together. You could crochet pot holders, dishcloths, etc., as we have a Secret Santa swap and that is fun. Last years was so much fun. I was like you, wondering where everyone went and finally decided everyone was busy as it's spring. Welcome to the group. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

I read back far enough to learn some of what you're doing with the kids, but what's the beginning of the story? What kids? And are you teaching them? I'd love to know more. My kids want to learn so badly. My 9 year old is awesome and focused and loves it. My 10 year old just doesn't have the attention span to practice enough.

Hi Writerofwords. Haven't seen you here in a while. I'm sure you've been busy. Does your school get out for the summer or is it year round? What are all the students doing these days? Hi to everyone else that's on here. The wind is about to blow us away today. I need to gather eggs and water the flock but it is really bad today with wind gusts up to 65mph.

Hi everybody! Yes it's spring and our hopes for warm weather have us planning more outdoor activities. I say "hopes for warm weather" because it snowed again yesterday here in Reno.

I tell ya, I am so over the "Oh isn't the snow pretty here?" thing!

Anyway here is a cute summer shrug to crochet (you have to sign up with Lion brand yarn but their e-mails are a great source of new ideas and they have a ton of free patterns on their web-site). Yes I said free! I'm going to make this one in red with black trim... http://www.lionbrand.com/patterns/5...ontent=CottonProjects-V-StitchCocoonShrug&r=1

The kids get out the 27th of May and me on the 28th, we come back the last week of July. We are looking forward to next year's club!

Lot's of luck with the coming year and hope you enjoy your vacation. My daughter get out the 10th but she will be teaching summer school for 3 weeks. I think she'll go back sometime in August.
