Crochet "Chat"

Well, I haven't seen you on here for a while. Good to hear from you. I'm finishing up another granny square afghan for.....? No one in mind, just to keep my hands busy. I'm still working on a hand pieced quilt and also knitting a sweater for myself. Today I take a quilt top to the quilters. I hadn't planned on it, was going to do it myself but afraid I wouldn't get it done before our trip to NC and my granddaughters wedding. Like you, I'm busy as a bee. I'm still getting a few veggies from the garden but it's been so hot it's drying up. My chickens are giving me about 2-4 eggs a day from six hens. I have some new bantams but aren't old enough to lay yet. I have roo and hen black silkies and roo and hen lavenders so will get blue eggs when they start to lay. Hope the twins do fine. Bet what you made them is pretty. Keep in touch.

It's been nearly a whole day!! and STILL no babies! Momma is hanging in there, though... All of us keep getting the FaceBook updates!!
Will post pics when I get back next week - off for our annual TRUE roughing in adventure: camping in a tent!

Cute, cute. I do a chain stitch scallop around the edges of my grannies. That way, I can chain/single crochet the scallops together. This us often called a lattice. I hate changing colors because of hiding the threads. You do great work. Crochet more.

Hi gang~ Just stopping by for a quick hello!

I probably have many pages to catch up on, but always look forward to see what projects everyone is working on & the wonderful pictures of all the beautiful work. I haven't done much crocheting this summer. I have a gigantic afghan I've been working on for my daughter I pull out from time to time. Maybe I'll get it finsihed before she leaves for college next year.

I did do some bright reg pattern 6" grannies for fun. I inherited a bunch a yarn from a friend this spring and that really excited me.

Yipeeeee!!!! Now I look like an even bigger yarn hoarder than usual. I finally pulled it out of the office and organized it to put w/ my other yarn stash. I had to buy some of those XXL (Huge) ziplock bags to store it in, but it's finally organized and getting too big for my upstairs guest bedroom closet.

Hope everyone is doing well. Have a great day~

I guess I'm not the only one with a big stash of yarn and extra granny squares left over from projects. I just finished another granny afghan but have no one in mind. I might donate it to the local nursing home. I made a graqnny square afghan for my husbands 99 year old sister and she insists it be on her bed over her or on her when she's in her chair. I made one for the other sister that's 94 and it's on the back of her couch and she uses it when she sits and reads. It gets cold in KS in the winter. I will probable start another one soon but have no one in mind for it either. Just like to crochet.

Hey baustin~ I think we are all secretly yarn hoarders. hehe! I just can't help it. My eyes got so big when I saw my friend's mom's yarn stash. My husband and I were helping her clean out her mom's house before putting it on the market. As soon as I saw the closet of stash I asked if I could buy it from her. She doesn't knit or crochet, so she just gave it to me b/c she said she rather it go to someone she knew. She was going to either donate it to or auction it off, but rather give it to me. I'm going to crochet her a hat w/ matching scarf.

The afghan I'm working on for my daughter is Lily's Sugar n Cream color 'Vintage twist'. She wanted a lighter weight blanket than the wool or worsted acrylic yarn. She actually picked out the yarn last summer. I'm just using a half double crochet stitch, nothing fancy.

I just made some granny's this summer b/c I had an itch to crochet, but no project in mind. I do have a few bags full of various pattern & sizes of grannies from swaps on here over the years that I have never connected.

So what size grannies did you make for the afghans, what pattern did you use, & what stitch do you like to use to connect them, and how many squares per afghan? That is so sweet that you made your husband's sisters afghans and so endearing that they love and use them.

I think we should do a granny square SWAP. I'll organize it if anyone is interested in it.

WOW!!!! That is gorgeous! What a lucky niece. I love the different patterns and color combo. I hear ya about changing colors. I hate having to do the color switch of knotting and weaving in many yarn tails.

Hi greenfamilyfarms~

Welcome to the crochet chat thread! I think hands on teaching from someone experienced is great, but everyone learns differently. There are some great sites & books out there that show step by step with pictures. There is even youtube videos. You might be able to find a beginners book mark down at a closing Boarders store. You could also go to your local hobby/craft store and see if they have a beginners class. I know the JoAnn's Fabric store in my area provide one. Just google beginning crochet and see what pops up. I used www.crochetcabana.com to learn the basic granny square pattern. Let us know what you come up with or if you need any help. There are a lot of nice and talented experienced crocheters on this thread that will be willing to help you.
