Crochet "Chat"

Thanks everyone. I am thinking of starting some doilies, maybe to give out to married grandchildren as keepsakes. I was at a yard sale not long ago and found this huge bag of odds and ends of crochet thread and bought it for $3. There are a lot of balls of several colors besides white and I can hear it calling to me "use me, use me"

I have so many of the old timey pattern books some dating back to the early 40's that only cost a dime to buy.

Sorry it's taken me so long to get back to everyone. I've been so darn busy with family situations. My husbands 99 year old sister (he's the baby at 75) passed away and we drove 3500 miles round trip in 5 days to go to her funeral. Then a few days after that I drove 200 miles round trip by myself to go see my granddaughter that was taking special training with the army near here and I wanted to see her before she went back east. Anyway, I'm going to try and upload the photo of the canopy I crocheted so you can all see it. It was a big project but quite easy to crochet as the pattern was simple.

BEAUTIFUL

So technically - it's into the 2nd row down? Right? I think I have the picture upside down.

I don't know why it's so hard for me to understand patterns visually - maybe also has to do with why I was so bad in math. lol

I think your right it's upside down. It is the second row down. I don't think anyone is as bad as I was at math. Ugggg. Baaaaaad. I don't think I ever had above a D.

I failed cooking and sewing. Got A's in shop. Go figure.

Would you believe that the canopy is 30 years old. My stepmom asked me to make it when she found a pattern in a Colonial Home magazine. I lived in NC at the time and was a single working mom so I could only work on it in the evenings when I was done with the usual things a mom does when she works during the day, you know....laundry, mending, homework, etc. They drove out to see me every other year so the next time they came I had just finished putting the tassles on it. It worked up pretty fast since it's mostly chain three and double crochet into the next double crochet like filet crochet is done. When she had to go into a nursing home in 2006 she gave me the bed and the canopy. She also gave me the tablecloth I made as a wedding present when she and my stepfather got married in 1978. She was quite a lady. She always treated me like one of her own children and was a mom to me. My mom passed away in 1960 at the age of 46. I was 20 at the time.

The canopy may have been "easy" to crochet, but it is still impressive that you took the time to make it! And it is also very beautiful ...

As for the doilies - DO IT! Especially if you have those old pattern books and magazines ... (*wipes a bit of drool off her chin*)
