What a cutie

Just love the idea of a mermaid. Did you make the pattern up yourself?

I've seen them online but didn't want to buy a pattern and none were done in the shell stitchs so, yeah i guess i did make the pattern up myself. I mostly wanted to make sure it fit her right, I made a DC set not very long ago and didn't like it much so it's going in the garage sale next weekend. I think the shells kind of look like scales on this one :)

There is a stitch that looks like scales. There are a few tutorials on youtube about it. It's a scale stitch, or if you do a search for a Mermaid Tears purse, there is a whole 5 part series on how to make it... and it's a multiple of 7, so you can make it really any size. Each scale requires 7 dc. It's really cool.. all dc, and simple, once you see it being done in real time.

I'm making this for my niece's next pictures(next month) I don't like the way the 'crown' pushes her ears down so I am going to make a headband w/flower for her instead. I also have to make the shell bikini top too. But she was here today so I couldn't help myself and had to put her in it!

AWWWWWW!!!!! Too adorable!!!

I expect it used to be bright green and has faded to a more muted green, trimmed with a lighter green. The reason I think it used to be bright is that there is tinsel under it which looks old.

Here is the yarn bomb. The detail looks like an attempt at a fir (Christmas) tree and, together with the tinsel at the bottom, leads me to think it has been there until at least last December. I couldn't get the format right, so you need to scroll up & down to see the whole thing.

Hi,

You need to scroll up & down to see both pictures and the text of the yarn bomb.
Very cool Alethea! I've heard of yarn bombs, but haven't ever seen any. It looks like they actually crocheted or knitted part of it. There is a local art/craft festival called The Strange Folk Festival that encourages yarn bombs, but I haven't ever been able to attend. It always seem to fall on the same weekend as our Girl Scout Cookie Caravan every yr. Hopefully I can go this year.
