Crochet "Chat"

I've worked on a few things but it's been especially nice here in WA so staying busy outside & busy with all of Grandma's daily radiation appointments. I just finished a little bulky-type headband for a new baby in the family, I used lion brand 'baby's first'(i think that's what it was). It turned out really cute so I will have to post a picture tomorrow. I've been thinking about making a matching diaper cover, maybe so she can use it in photos?
Is no one crocheting this summer, or just not playing on BYC much? Thread is a tad slow lately. Hope no one minds me talking to myself, lol.

I sold a baby afghan yesterday. A friend emailed me to ask if I had any baby items, that she had to buy a baby gift. Yea!

Good idea about the library tapes, never thought of that. They do have some crochet books, I'm sure, haven't looked. There is a neat thing called www.thriftbooks.com that sells really inexpensive books. I've gotten two crochet books from them and you can even sell them back your own books. Or Amazon also has a used book thing where you could find some inexpensive books on crochet, but I've really used youtube to learn things.

Was wondering if crochet was like quilting. Many folks don't quilt at all in summer, only in fall and winter, since it's sort of a "hot" activity. I'd say crocheting a huge afghan might not be too fun in hot weather, but granny squares and other small items wouldn't overheat you. At least, it's been something easy to do while my sewing machine was away being cleaned by the electronics people after the house fire. I just got that back last week.

I think I may have to play a youtube video over and over again to learn the steps. My internet access isn't the best here, so I lose a lot of bandwidth if I watch youtube. But I'll give it a try. Thanks for the tip

My Internet is the same, I took the laptop to my library, and (with headphones of course) used their wifi to watch videos and choose which ones I liked best, then downloaded them. I had never crocheted before, and patterns where Greek! I can now make 10 different things, AND have learned to read patterns, all in about 4 months. I also learned to sew, and quilt that way. Hope that helps some! I Google EVERYTHING! Lol

sonderah, you have inspired me.I am feeling very encouraged to try again. I went to the library yesterday and found some good beginner videos. Now I have to delete a lot of stuff from my computer, so I can have enough memory to download them. Hopefully, I'll be crocheting very soon

Glad I found this thread! I taught myself to crochet several years ago but just this year have been trying to read patterns. Some relatively easy patterns seem to get too complicated by how they word their directions. It will be nice to have a place to ask if I'm stuck on a direction for something.

I definitely crochet and sew more during the Fall (Pre-Winter), Winter and Spring (Post Winter). Too much to do outside when we actually have nice weather. Favorite place for crocheting is in the car when we are driving the 4 hours to visit family.

I do a granny square every once in awhile, with an eye toward putting them together in an afghan some day. Working on this scallops shawl still, which is done in two panels and pieced together, but I ran out of the Red Heart Soft Rose Blush yarn and need to order another skein since no one carries it locally. Thankfully, no dye lot. It has picot edging on each end then after piecing, you do a treatment down each long side. Color is way off in this picture, sorry.

And I did a scarf holding two strands of yarn together, Red Heart Soft in Deep Sea and Bernat Satin in Sage.

Hi gals! I'm new to BYC but addicted to crochet. I was so excited to see a crochet thread (I think there may be a pun in there). It has been neat seeing everyone's creations. I thought I'd show a few things I made recently for my cousin's baby shower.
