Right now, just working on this afghan. It's called Oceanic Baby Blanket. Here is the link, which has instructions for many sizes. I'm going to do wide stripes separated by narrower white stripes, with Red Heart With Love.

I just love baby blankets! Seems like everyone I know is having babies right now. I'm working on this one, with softer colors.

But had issues getting to the pattern linked, so used this pattern instead.

Thanks so much for checking. The last board I had I could not code in the image box at the top there. Now I am very happy. 

All of my doilies pure crochet except the swan doily.  I do not applique flowers on top....... They are crocheted in ...not on top of.   I am not fond of appliqued doilies.    Applique  ok with some things but in my opinion, not on doilies. It's something  a beginner would do not a professional. It's kind of like comparing a  fuseable applique quilt to hand stitched quilt. There's just no skill required in those examples. That being said I have made a couple of doilies by making the doily then putting crocheted flowers on top and then promptly threw them in the garbage.

Anyway thanks ladies for looking at my forum. Hopefully I will see some new members soon. It's really a bad time for me to be starting up a forum this time of year. I have a couple of quilts waiting to be quilted. It's just a side business. Gives me a little spending money for some of my useless hobbies.

Your doilies are just incredible. I hope to give my first one a shot before the end of the year. Got to crank out these baby blankets first!

My granddaughter saw me crocheting and asked me to make her a blanket.


I was at the flea market today and there were lots of doilies for sale. Old of course but nice and easier than doing them myself. I bought an embroidered table runner for $4. Much nicer and heavier linen than you'd get today. I can't see making things like this at these prices.

I also got some copies of "The Workbasket" magazines. Sold for 15 cents. Two from 1952 and one from 1951.
Must be Mrs. Long moved here from Russellville, Ark.

I am going to offer some of my patterns for download for 25 posts on my board as soon as we get 100 or so members. This is a one time thing.

Your baseball bat comment made me smile. I made a few doilies several years ago and just recently decided to make another one. I am using a #12 steel hook with Size 10 cotton thread. It is so laborious to keep an eye on the tiny hook and make sure it doesn't split the thread. Granted, my choice of hook size is probably too small, but I wanted to make sure the doily came out small and I the Size 10 thread is what I had to work with. Working with thread is great when I want to achieve a desired effect (like a thin bookmark or a nostalgic doily), but give me my worsted weight yarn any day!

That's funny, pw. I find using tiny hooks very difficult due to my carpal tunnel. Even my 4.25 mm seems teensy. I guess it's what you start with. I've never tried crochet thread and I'm not sure I could use it with my issues. Seems like it would tangle badly.

I would suggest a size 20 crochet cotton for smaller doilies. Coats & Clark make a good cotton. I signed up and got their free catalog. I usually wait until they offer free shipping and buy several balls of it. I think walmart sells the size 20 as well. A size 12 hook is very small. I use a size 11.
