Crochet "Chat"

Not crochet related but joann fabrics related:

I went to Joann's to pick up another mini lantern... And I stumbled upon THIS.

The doors open and I was able to get the chicken out so I can fit some other plastic chickens in it. 30% off in their spring fairy garden aisle... $12.99 originally and we got it for $8 as it was 30% off and we had a coupon. I'm in love with this.

I'm glad you got a good deal. I don't know why folks shop elsewhere. Jo Anns has good prices and coupons. Though AC Moore is the only one that carries the wooden eggs.

And to think that this is crochet!!!

Wow! Very nice!  What type of pattern makes that knitted look!
It is called Tunisian crochet. It requires a special long crochet hook. When you crochet down a row, you leave the last stitch on the hook. Then, rather than turning your piece, you yarn over and pull through two stitches until you get back to the first stitch. Watch a YouTube on it. It is pretty cool. It is a mix between crochet and knitting!

If I want something to have a knitted look, I use a Knook (crochet hook with a long string attached). It makes actual knitted stitches with one crochet hook (no needles!). I have tried to learn knitting, but knitting does not like me.

his sounds like the Tunisian crochet. Right?

I do both Knitting and Crochet. I can't see why one wouldn't just learn to knit. I'm a guy and if I can do it, it should be easy for a woman.

I've done crochet mittens and four needle knit mittens. I like the knitted better but they are more work I think.

I'm familiar with the "Afghan stitch".. I have a pattern for an afghan called "Rooster Round Up" and an old book I first bought. It may very well be the same stitch. The Tunisians probably stole it.

What are Tunisians? I never cared for the afghan stitch because you do two rows for one rows worth. Put stitches on and then take them off. Put stitches on and then take them off. This afghan is done in three panels. Then you cross stitch the roosters on.

I'll just say I tried knitting and managed to (painstakingly) make one dishcloth. I think there is a lot more coordination involved with 2 needles when you are used to 1 hook. That and knitting is so slow. I could get on a soapbox here, but I won't. Too many people think it has to be either or, but I think each craft has its pros and cons and it is just a personal choice.

What I like about the afghan stitch is that it does make a perfect grid for cross stitch. I tried to make a similar afghan using afghan stitch and then cross stitching Sesame Street characters on each block. I think my tension was too tight and my squares just wanted to curl up on themselves!
