I agree that knitting seems slower than crochet. Seeing as I do both. Took me years to finish my wifes afghan and my DD's I just found again. I have didn't really like the pattern. It's in that Chenille yarn, and you can buy a blanket already done at TJ Max for $20. They call them blankets but they're really afghans. Both really take practice. I just did square after square. I've never done dish clothes though.

Anyhow if it takes a lot more coordination then I'll take what you said as a compliment.

I too, have tried in vain to learn to knit. If I want a knit look I just get out my Tunisian hook. One day I may try that hook w/ the line thing someone was referring to earlier.
 
I can knit...but for some reason if I lose my place, I cannot figure how to fix it. And the four needles thing...just looks scary! I am sure I will give it a go sometime again. I haven't worked on any yarn or sewing projects this year...we have been remodeling our kitchen.
 
There are a ton of resources online to help learn to knit. I taught myself two years ago and just powered through it. Learning was super challenging. Lion Brand Yarn has a lot of tutorials online and youtube is awesome for helping, too. If you check out ravelry, there are tons of free patterns for new knitters and chat groups for folks to help each other learn. My first socks were in a bulky yarn. Its confidence building for sure.

I wouldn't be opposed to starting a learning to knit group and helping where I can. I'm sure some of the other knitters also would pipe up and offer help :) We could do a KAL on a beginner's project - that might be fun.

We do a knit square thing at church. If I can knit anyone can. I can still remember the red yarn I used. I just knitted small squares until I got the hang of it. There are different way to cast on stitches too.
I also can do four needle mittens. I'm getting ready to pull the needles out for that since the grandson has not mittens. I have yet to do socks though. Turning a heal is not easy for me.
 
the heels are my least favorite part. I did finish a pair recently with short row heels, and those went much easier. I'm doing a lace pair now, two at a time and haven't even poked out my own eye yet.... If I can figure THAT out, ANYONE can!
