Crochet "Chat"

Well, I finished that humongous tote bag. I think it would benefit from a stiff bottom insert, but don't have one at the moment, maybe stiff cardboard cut to the bottom shape with nice fabric wrapped and glued down on the cardboard? I realize some would line it but I have no idea how to do that.

Here it is. Depending on how you measure it, it's about 25" wide laying flat and 17" tall from the base. No idea how it got so wide. If you think about the sides being 4" each, then the bag would be 17" wide.

You could try using the Plastic Mesh stuff they sell at the craft store, I am not sure if you can get in in bigger pieces that paper-size but it might be stiff enough to add some support to the bottom of the bag & you could just whip stitch it into place.

I use thin flexible plastic cutting boards for my bags, I get mine at walmart.

Oh, my, you know I have a set of three in my kitchen that I bought after the fire and have never used! Maybe if they are long enough, I can sacrifice one. If not, will have to figure something else out.

Thanks for your suggestion, too, Bleenie. I do like the looks of the bag and it used up a TON of Super Saver that I didn't want to use for apparel. Next bag will be smaller, for sure!

ETA: The cutting boards are about 3" too short, darn it. I just checked. I'll file that away for future smaller bags, though. How do you attach them in there? Or do you just put a piece that is tightly wedged?

I just tightly wedge them in out of laziness. you can cover them with material (maybe glue the material either together or directly to the plastic) and then sew it to the bag.
I suppose that I would do that if gifting them.

edited to add....... 3 inches too short: Cut plastic to fit leaving leftovers to add the 3 inches (possibly stapling the 2 pieces together for stability)... cover with material and sew onto the bag. Don`t know if that makes sense to you :)
