Crochet "Chat"

I have officially changed my mind, well have been forced to change my mind actually.

I have been trying to convert this to an easy crocheted pattern. I was going to use a blue/green variegated for the white, and black for the black to make a 3D looking sphere that would remind a person or have the "feel" of Earth in space. I have tried many different stitches and sizes and can't get something that matches the vision in my head. So now I am just crocheting a circle w/ the colored yarn and will convert in to square w/ black. It won't look 3D, but it will be a solid Earth shaped / colored sphere so not all is lost.

Oh my I just saw something I had not seen before when I posted that pic. zig zag pattern, I had been working in squares maybe something will work w/ a zig zag instead.

I noticed that too! I was wondering if that is how you were doing it. If you did the zig zags, perhaps you could go back through and embellish (is that the right word.. Meaning just sew he yarn over) to make the smaller dots in the bigger zigzags...

Neat idea!

The zig zags should mean I wouldn't have to go back and do the small squares they should be a part of the zig zag. I think diagonal stripes done in 4 sections then combined should work, but to get the outer edge circled and fit a squared off checker board?????????? Maybe just as many problems as my first way of thinking!!!!!

What you must understand is this is an "Optical Illusion". While all the squares are equal is size it looks as though they are not. Or 15 squares by 15.

I would use a single crochet stitch to make the squares and of course a light and dark color. Blk and Whte or Red and whte etc. etc.

The actual piece is not the vision in your head.

I am fully aware it is an optical illusion, that all squares are the same size, but getting a stitch that is exactly the same size tall as wide, plus divisible by 3, plus can maintain a straight line. I figured several that ALMOST fit all the criteria but would be wonky or not have an easy smooth color change or not make a perfect square, or, or, or..... Oh an I forgot needs to be about 45 inches square total for the project I am working on.
