Well that depends on the paint you use. If you use regular interior house paint it will not hold up to the weather. If you use an exterior grade paint not really, it will hold up to the weather on the exposed surfaces, but not necessarily against the dirt on the bed side. That is why I recommended a good marine paint to use. I have used it before in building wooden holding tanks for fish and had no problems with it leaching into the water or being toxic to the fish. Most people just use regular wood to make the frames out of and don't paint them. I just made it as a suggestion to help cut down on the need to replace the wood in the frames every couple of years.

Paint today is a lot safer than it was years ago, with lead having been removed from it.

I was confused risu. It was okie that asked that. Sorry.

This is how I did my strawberry bed. It's not raised but it has a border of rocks around it. I put down weed barrier. Which I love!! I have it in almost every bed I use. Then I got some good bagged soil about 6 in. deep and spread that all over the weedgaurd and planted my "babies". Then I mulched all around them. I had tried to do a strawberry patch in my garden before and the weed and grass just over took the bed. I've had this bed for 3 years now and the strawberries are all over and no weeds. I get an occassional dandelion or crabgrass but they pull right up.

I got super lucky. My neighbor told me that the exact spot my garden sits is where a hog lot used to be.
I would like to add more dirt to my garden because it has a couple low spots, but last time I checked on clean good dirt it was pretty expensive.

I wish I could, but I'm afraid a long distance road trip is not possible at this time. But feel free to email me with any questions and I will try to help you out with some answers.

Okie it depends on the kind of paint you used , it is just to keep the wood from rotting as quickly, untreated or unpainted will work they just will absorb the moisture and and rot sooner, rotting wood also attracts termites and other bugs. Now as days they treat wood with a salt type solution not all the chemicals that had been done in the past. Hint we have 6 plant tables in the greenhouse that we got from the old greenhouse here in town and they are about 20 years old. they are painted and still sturdy and very useable. Believe me they have had the moisture. DH built me some new tables to add to the greenhouse he has used treated lumber and the look great

Here is one of the older tables. last years photo

I see those little marigolds peeping out amongst those monster tomatoe plants! I'm jealous Karan, I wish I had the land to do all the gardening I want to do. Once the flowers start to bloom and grow in the front yard I'll have to take some pics and post them.

I know how disheartening it is to get that kind of bad news. Been there, done that too many times. Remember that our prayers and thoughts are with you & your family as you go through all of this. I'm confident that God will show you His path soon! Love & hugs!

And like Karan said, please go by the library or a friend's house or somewhere just to check in occasionally!

I have a small rain garden in the front yard in the corner with native grasses and flowers to catch the run off in my yard. Last year the neighbors called in to the city and said I needed to mow it.

lau.gif
It was really funny. The city guy said that rain gardens are very good to have and no need to mow it.

There are a lot of rain gardens in my city in the more affluent neighborhoods and where free thinking people live, just not in this area where I live.

Tili just FYI in case ya don't know that Nasturtiams are a bait plant as far as pests are conserned aphids and other plant pest love them so you want to plant them away from the plants you are protecting. Marigolds are companion plants and can be put in with the others as they deter those bugs. There are also some Gerainums that deter bugs.
I would love to have a water garden by the house but I am afraid my ducks would eat it up

They have done a great job cleaning out the over growth on our 2 ponds in the pasture

Happy Gardening everyone
