Crochet "Chat"

Got my first egg from one of my October babies. It was actually pretty good size and hard shell. It has speckles on it and assume it came from one of my Buttercups because she was in the nest when I walked in the coop and it was still warm.

Go Butters!!! I love my Buttercups! They are the most lovey chickens. Always jumping on my back or shoulders.

Anyone know how to make a hen stop being broody? I have 2 that will NOT get off the nest EVER! I take them off every day and put them on the floor and get the eggs and they just jump right back up to the nest.

I had one do that last year Purple and it was that incessant clucking noise that nearly drove me crazy. I took her off the nest a hundred times and she would run back to it and sit on golf balls...crazy chicken!! I didn't find anything that worked, only time. I locked her up at night with the others and that helped and I took the golf balls out so she had nothing to sit on but it finally worked itself out...can you give yours fertile eggs to sit on? I couldn't I have my citywide number of allowed chickens otherwise I might have done that.

SE I don't have a rooster so all my eggs are no good for the broody hens. I don't trust them with any eggs I could buy. Guess I will have to just keep taking them off every day to get the eggs out from under them. They ( 2 hens ) get the eggs from the other hens and sit on them till I get out there in the afternoon and collect them.

Just checking in. Thanks for the wishes, Karan. I do feel like I just need to be "broody" like Algo's hens though most of the time.

Gonna be out of town this weekend, and busy most of the rest of the week, so if ya all don't see me, it's just that....nothing serious. I will be sure to check back in when we get back!

Look at Syd and her chick. Finally got time to make a diaper for our chicks. I've been pretty busy making for others.

Cute, cute pictures Chix!!! Husbands LEARN to tolerate all kinds of things if you train them right, lol!!! Looks like yours will be a keeper, hahaha!!! Get a pot bellied pig next, he'll think the chicken is nothing, lol!! The diaper is cute on tht little chicken too! Love your daughter's freckles, mine has them too, Mom's think they're sweet but the girl's try to wash them off!!

Maw, I have veggie plants, no veggie pickins yet...hopefully by mid or late June though. Really excited to find that three seedlings came up from the muscadine grape seeds I planted last fall aftr making awesome jam with the grapes someone gave me!!! They had the very best flavor and I saved all the seeds, there were about 3 cups worth of them!! I planted them everywhere in the yard and I guess the chickens found them or they just didn't germinate all but these 3 I stuck in an old flowerpot with dirt..yay!!!! Maybe in 3 years now I will have some grapes with that same great flavor as the ones I was given!! I cut a hole in the bottom of the pot so the roots could get out and put them under a trellis..didnt want to risk transplanting them!!
