Crochet "Chat"

I like using half double crochet for hats. Tight stitch, but works up faster. It's turning into one of my fav stitches.

I am a very late comer to this conversation. I recently picked up my crochet hooks again, not ever really knowing more than a very basic stitch or two. I started a blanket for our grandson, and it is so cockeyed it isn't even funny. I guess I need to start paying more attention to threads like this and learn a thing or two!

I decided to give my goblin hat a break and try a simple bear beanie. I got looking at the video that I used for my first one and realized I was doing it different. I seen one video a while back that was only going under one thread in the stitch and I got looking more closely and realized the woman was going under both. I'm using the same size hook as my first hat and similar yarn but it is coming out smaller than my first but looks a lot nicer and more even. Even though it is smaller I can always find someone to give it to. It may end up fitting my head once I get it longer.

While I'm working on my crocheting my husband says, "Why don't you spend your time learning to play the guitar instead of doing that?" He then said he doesn't really like the look of crochet since it reminds him of a old woman hobby. I told him it seems to be coming back into style and it is easier than learning the guitar. Also I like creating something that I can keep and use. I think he just got tired of hearing me complain about my goblin hat and he seen me spend so many hours messing with it.

After that conversation I got looking up knitting for a different look. I thought knitting would be harder but it actually looks easier than I thought. I told my husband I could go out and get knitting supplies and start knitting him stuff. I was joking with him about that but I may end up trying it. Looks easier on the hands and wrists than the crocheting. My fingers got so stiff last night that I couldn't hardly get them to bend.

I finished a baby bear hat but one problem I have noticed with this hat and the other one is that it becomes pointed where the rows meet. All the stitches seem even. When finish my row in the last stitch I do my slip stitch in the third chain and do two chains then do the double crochet in the next stitch. For some reason it ends up pointed in the back at the end of where the rows end. Anyone know what I might be doing wrong to fix this?

That's what I've been doing with the double stitches. Just didn't know the term. I've been starting with the magic circle since I find it easier than starting with the chain.

You don't slip w/ crocheting in the round. You just mark and keep going . I find the chain easier for me. I know a lot of ppl LOVE the Magic Circle.... but I struggle w/ it.

Maybe that is what my problem is. This is the youtube video that I was going by but I thought she was doing a slip stitch.

I got some pictures. The green hat is my first had I made so it is kind of sloppy and I was placing the hook under only one thread in the stitch. The purple hat was suppose to be my goblin hat but I'm going to redo the whole hat since it wasn't coming along and I tried increasing but didn't do it right. I'm also switching to a bigger hook for it. Sorry the images are so big. I thought about making them smaller but wasn't sure if it would be hard for you to see what I was doing.


The chain is where I started the row and I counted up to the third stitch in the chain and did the slip stitch.

This is after the slip stitch followed by two chains. Then I would start in the next stitch to do my double stitch.



I watched a video showing how to crochet in the round and they did the same as me but did 3 chains after the slip stitch instead of two. Could that be my problem?
