Cubalaya Thread For Sharing Pics and Discussing Our Birds

White pullet-
Troyer, is that the one I gave you?
Stan, the tail should have the wide spread like that, yes. Ideally it would be below horizontal as well. Above horizontal is a DQ.
Really nice looking clean white, how big is she? If she is from me, she had a 7 pound daddy!

It means its not a pure wheaten. If its a cockerel, it will be very hard to tell its different when grown. If a pullet, it will be obvious. I've never had one quite like that, Sometimes the Zook line will throw a female of a very uniform dark brown color, maybe this will be something like that. Possibly it's carrying Db dark brown, possibly Mh Mahogany, or it may be a partridge type, not sure. Maybe partridge eb wheaten Wh cross? Time will tell. Don't worry about it, it could be your best bird ever!!!

Thanks Gallo. Now I can't wait to see it grown!

Very wide tail on the pullet. Is this considered a good tail? I know it is not pinched, but should it be flatter?? Trying to learn. ............stan

She has a nice wide tail and yes, it should be below horizontal. She is being bred to a cockerel that has a tail way below horizontal.

Thanks for the replys. I was not asking about 'horizontal though, I get that it should be on an downslope from the back, lower than the wings. What I was asking is if the tail should be more in the same plane side to side when looking at her from the rear. Her tail is wide, and tee pee shaped if that makes my question clearer? .....stan

So this is a German white Cubalaya hens tail . This is my favorite picture ever of a lobster tail. I've never had one quite this good myself, so this is my ideal personally. Hope this helps.

From what I read in the APA standard. Female. Tail: Long, broad, well-spread and carried below the horizontal. It does not specifically mention whether a teepee look or a half moon look. I prefer the half-moon look as I also think if the cock's tails would be more half-moonish in shape, you would tend to get a better looking fuller looking tail (my opinion). In my limited experience it seems in the teepee-shape tailed cock/cockerels the main sickle feather looks overly long compared to the rest of the tail. There are others that have been breeding cubalaya longer than I have, maybe they can chip in here?

That helps Gallorojo, and is what I was thinking. I really need the visual. I can read the SOP over and over, and just not get it! I'm so used to looking at the tepee shape that I was not sure the Cuba tail should be flatter side to side. thanks. ......stan
