To get olive colored eggs, you will need a dark brown breed. A Rooster over your blue egg layers will do it.

Good Luck!

What about a green egg layer (Isbar) over a Maran? Would that work the same way?
Close but you never know what will happen with the brown coating genes and there is no guarantee that the isbar is double blue for egg shell color.

You will have mostly olive colored eggs but there could be some brown eggs if the hen is double recessive white. Blue is dominant so there only needs to be one gene for blue.

Brown is a coating, similar to paint and there are between 9 and 12 gene pairs for brown.

The eggs will be wonderful though!

Thanks! That is so interesting. I do have a couple Maran eggs set aside from my Isbar Roo, so I think I will incubate them
just to see what happens. I realize I will have to keep the chicks from this until they start laying which would be next Spring.
This takes a lot of patience, doesn't it?

It is great that you are going to breed them.

Keep us posted and show pictures of the chicks when they hatch.

What happens if I mix a bcm with a rir? Or a blue egg layer and rir
bcm and rir will get brown eggs.

blue egg layer and rir will get light green to med green eggs. Some may be brown and rarely there will be enough brown genes to get an olive egg.

Olive is much less likely though.

Ok I have a question I hatched these along with others but these are what I kept I bought the eggs and the man says all his birds are seperate but this feathered feet baby came out looking like rir to me has any one tell me if this is a full bcm? Have u ever experienced this? And can u tell me if these 2 r hens or Roos? The last one is a Easter egger
