Dark Egg Breeds Thread

If nothing was signed to that extent (I know sometimes when you buy a dog you have to sign a paper prommissing you will spay/neuter), then that is just crazy!

Wow!

If I buy expensive eggs.... I get to juggle with them, eat them, smash them against my living room wall, incubate them, or sell them. They are my eggs!

Well, thanks Ron for telling me, I will be more careful who I buy from, to make sure I don't accidentally buy from someone like you described.... I didn't even know some people had those crazy opinions.

Mary, the Sheriff has a bunch of the Icelandic crowd harassing her because the do not think she is caring for them properly(on facebook). She has taken legal action against them too.

Sometimes those that import a breed or have a special or rare breed get very possessive of them even after they sell them. They try to make the person that buys them agree to things like not crossing them and etc.

It really goes against consumer law.

Those are all good points.
I have to admit though that it drives me a little crazy when there's an exceptional breed with maybe 200 or so pure individuals scattered across the country and rather than try to grow the population some continue to outcross.
That is IMHO just wasting those rare genetics.

well I kind of knew it was dead just seeing if anyone was still subscribed. Anyone getting ready to do some spring hatching? I need to add some new hens to the flock so I'll be doing a series of hatches soon

Good luck. That was the plan here and my husband, the fun police remarked,"Why, you need a lot of cockerels?" Unfortunately that is the story of most of my hatches. I think he is hoping the feed store gets pullet peeps in before I start the incubator. He has gone over to the dark side and wants production pulles

Yeah my wife gave me an eye roll when I mentioned needing to incubate some eggs. She thinks we have entirely to many chickens. Lol no such thing in my mind. I'm hatching Welsummers and Marans.

Two good breeds to hatch. Thinking to myself...yeah I need a couple of welsummers and black copper marans. Love those dark eggs and love to make olive eggers. Don't want to get a lot of chicks and don't want to get shipped chicks although I have before, just don't want that many, but can't find black copper marans in our area. Guess I'll just have to go with the cuckoo marans and blue splash marans. Even places with a large selection don't carry the BCM's.
