Darn you, BYC!

You know he's NEVER going to let you live that down, don't you? Oh, well, you probably have some good stories about him you can blackmail him with.

Well, aside from your DS falling out, I want to commend you for doing your research.

I cannot eat eggs which taste of chicken sadness, either. I do love how you characterized it!!

Welcome to BYC, where you will be amongst like-minded folks!

I totally understand you...I was just like that when i was pregnant....I could not even eat meat without feeling bad...lol
You will fit in just fine. I am "new" to chickens and am TOTALLY obsessed now !!! and would do anything for my little bantam chicks

Here is one of my new "children"

It's a baby bald eagle!

I love it! And I so understand!

Oddly, it was my neighbor that never had chickens and has no desire to have any that gave me the idea of happy eggs. He and his wife were excited to get eggs from my "happy chickens." He said, "Look at these guys. They're happy! I'd rather have their eggs than store ones."

I have to say that this has been one of my favorite threads on BYC. I laughed when I first read it, but then realized how true your statement is. I have shared the OP's comment with my family and friends and we all definitely agree that eggs from happy hens raised on good feed and in a healthy environment definitely do NOT taste like chicken sadness. Thanks for sharing this story with us!

Magpie31, first off, please tell your DH thank you for his service.

I am a former Active Duty Navy Wife (8 years), now a Reserve Navy Wife.
Hubby was stationed over in Japan during first pregnancy (I in Calif.) Second pregnancy, he was on a 6 month deployment, he came home early due to my Mom being terminally ill.

Back to the chicken issue, I understand the hormones are raging, but think you are doing you & your family good by eating Happy Chicken Eggs. So tell DH, he is not allowed to bring Chicken Sadness Eggs into your house anymore, or he will be sad, because he will be wearing them.

Hope the remainder of your pregnancy goes well, and my prayers are with your hubby for a safe return.

While I had to snicker at the "chicken sadness" comment, it's technically true and is (indeed) sad.

Our chickens aren't laying yet, but I can't wait until they do so that I don't have to buy eggs from the store. We'd buy fresh eggs from the locals if a dozen eggs didn't run $6+ a dozen. Seriously. I guess that's what we get for living just over an imaginary line from northern VA (where farms are actually luxury "estates" and buying local produce is, itself, considered a luxury item). :\\

Six dollars? WOW I need to move to WV! We get $2 - $3 normally. I charge $2.50 - and that is probably not even covering feed right now since they haven't all started laying.

Truly, I am probably wacko but I think happy and sad energy does exist in some things. Live things. Like eggs. Call me a nut if you like, I know for sure I've been called worse

Welcome to BYC. After you have your baby, you will come to your senses and realize everything you said was entirely sensible.

You have to move into either Berkeley or Jefferson Counties in WV (or anywhere in MD/VA/DC that is considered part of the DC Metro area), otherwise you're out of luck on the price gouging opportunity!

Nah, you're not a nut. I think that's true. The peace of mind alone in knowing that you're supporting the well being/keeping of something rather than its abuse is priceless. If we could afford it, I'd probably cut back on egg usage (until we start getting our own) and just buy the expensive eggs once in awhile.
