I was in a store today looking at (and buying

) a rotisserie chicken. And I just stated out loud, "poor chickens, they never knew what their fate was" and a lady said "chickens are disgusting animals". I said "Really? Then you've obviously never met Mrs. Cuddlesworth who comes running from across the yard and waits to be picked up and pet".

Yes, maybe they are dirty sometimes but they can't help that. Lord knows they try and keep themselves clean what with all their dust baths and preening. Those poor birds in the factories can't even do that. It's sad.

Or Kevin, who will fly onto your shoulder and hunker down for a good head scratch. Ignorant woman. Besides, the only chicken-filth is the humans' fault because we tend to keep them confined to a central location where their wastes can accumulate rather than it being spread over the much larger range they'd roam if left on their own. So if she thinks that chickens are disgusting, you should tell her it's her fault for not cleaning up after her chickens.

My teenage sons won't eat cage eggs now that they know how the hens are treated in commercial chicken farms. My oldest son even said when my daughter was still nursing, "You know, when you think about it drinking cow's milk is really kind of gross." I suspect that one is on the path to being a vegetarian.

So you wont all think I am nuts then when I say I have been thinking about taking some eggs with my to the I-Hop! I used to love going there on the weekends but cant go and get eggs anymore.

You think they would let me bring my own and make the cook use them???

Fo Sho! Or lick your face right after... doing those things and worse!

And I would rather step in chicken droppings than dog droppings!

Chickens aren't dirty at all. I know it sounds crazy, but sometimes I smell their feathers and they smell like fresh air and hay. I love it!

We passed a chicken truck full of "spent" bedraggled battery hens on their way to the Tyson plant and I have seen 'chicken sadness' almost nose to beak, and I won't eat their eggs either (or their chicken). Made me want to go home and hug my chickens.

And I agree, you seriously needed some ice cream.
