Hi,
So we picked up our day old chicks today and 1 has a featherless dried up skin flap/bag?? Near anus on rear but not a prolapsed anus. It actually seems like a skin bag that is shriveled a little with nothing in it, like a pocket of sagging skin. And no feathers whatsoever. Never had a chick with this! And breeder hadnt either. Anyone know? Another chick in the batch that i didnt end up taking had a side walking leg. So could it be something developmental in the hatch and will this chick die?

A breeder sent that chick home with you and offered you one with a side walking leg?

I don't know what the skin pouch is, unless it's an unabsorbed yolk sac. That would connect to the navel area and could potentially shrivel up and fall of like an umbelical cord. The risk is that an infection could set in or it could be a sign of a more serious internal deformity. Best of luck with the little guy.

Ms Biddy, luckily she noticed leg walk as soon as she put on floor in front of me. She knows i plan to show so said right away i shouldnt take. She had alot hatch the day before and she is good. But mentioned it because it was a poor hatch. Another didnt pip.
But you idea about the yolk sac ia exactly what i was thinking but havent been able to google much on this topic. I will try with that phrasing. I kind of wondered if it will shrivel enough to die off safely. But your right, my big concern is infection and internal abnormality

Um Ya! Her pic is so like my chick! Hers tho is from Hatchery and a different breed but weird! I'm gonna go read her thread more....
Thanks!!
And anyone else who has seen this please let me know.
So I have a Barred Rock baby who has the same thing going on. She is 2 weeks old and it appears to be a vessel running through hers. How is ur baby doin?
