Dead chick, Graphic pics. What went wrong? 😭

Is my broody hen a bad mum? Did she step on hatching chick!? Or kill it?

It has fluffiness! Poor chicky!
3 hatched out of 4. Other 3 doing fine.

It may have gotten squashed, but these things happen and sometimes chicks don't make it. Don't blame yourself. I understand being upset but it's out of your control and just try not to get hung up on it.

I am not an expert but it kinda looks like she might've stepped on it while it was close to being fully developed

If I stepped on my child and killed it I'm sure I wouldn't be allowed to parent ever again!! ... Although if it was an accident child was killed I guess the parent could have another chance...

Not necessarily since there is no law stating a parent who kills their child cannot have another even if it was intentional. I would say it is really not that uncommon, or at not as uncommon as you would think. So, surely a hen who did it accidently deserves another chance.

Sadly I do think that she killed it I'm so sorry i don't think that she stepped on it on purpose

It was quite flattened... Looks like it might have been a gorgeous partridge
