I'm just here sitting on my hands, waiting on the first pips. Perhaps tomorrow, can't remember if they're due Weds or Thursday...
@CacklingRanch ... Have you tried hatching from hen to hen to see if you have girls throwing more males? Previously I've found that to really be a thing in the bantams I was hatching a long time ago... as a flock it would level out to about 50/50, but individually some of my girls were throwing 5 of 6 as male, or even ALL male. I never got to try it with larger batches, currently the flocks are throwing mostly girls so I haven't felt compelled to go through hen by hen... though I do need to start looking for the non-layers, some of them are seeming pretty chronic with that.
I can't say a whole lot there have been on multiple occasions where i candle everyday and sometimes multiple times a day i know crazy rightYou guys are a terrible influence. I candled again last night when I added water and pulled the clears. 5 clear, 9 developing well. Can't say I'm surprised, with the weather we had as I collected them, 9 is actually a bit better than I expected.
I never let myself do that. I just find the risk of extra light on them and extra time with the incubator open isn't worth fulfilling my curiosity. Except for this time :sigh:I can't say a whole lot there have been on multiple occasions where i candle everyday and sometimes multiple times a day i know crazy right
we will be hatching on the same day then.Today I just stuck 5 of the eggs from my CCLB/Australorp mix hen's with Charley my NN roo over them in the incubator. They should hatch on Jan. 8th.
