Diatomaceous Earth - Human Use-dosage etc. WOW !!!!

OK, I HATE water and don't drink coffee. I do however LOVE Pepsi BUT if I put that stuff in Pepsi, I am liable to have some sort of chemical reaction and explosion LOL!!!!! I drink sweet tea all day long so I will try to drop some in there. I don't have any ailments to speak of, just curious what it would do for me. THANKS Spatcher!!!!

Here is the information on why you want to wear a mask when dealing with silica.

"Silica or quartz dust causes irreversible scarring in the lungs that leads to the lung disease, silicosis. The most common place people are exposed to silica is the workplace. Since quartz in found in many kinds of rock, any job that involves grinding rock probably involves a silicosis risk. For this reason, silicosis has often been called miner’s phythisis, potter’s asthma, grinder’s rot, or stonecutters’ disease."

I was taught that when dealing with dry pottery clay to always clean it up wet, not dry. That is to mop it versus sweep it, use a wet rag, etc. I have always been careful to teach my young art students those habits. Being in the art world, I know what havoc this disease can wreak, it's not uncommon and is very serious. I didn't know that there was so much silica in DE, and from now on when I scatter it in my chicken's run I will totally wear a mask. I would say if you drink it to make sure you keep the dust away from your face when mixing it with water and use a damp rag or sponge to clean up the dust.

One can never be too cautious. I choose not to use the mask however and that is my decision to make. To each his own I guess! The harmful silica (crystalline) is less than one half of one percent in PermaGuard and I dont consider that a great risk. I know other brands have up to 3% crystalline silica in their content and are still considered "food grade". I might have a tendency to be a little more careful with those if I were using them.

I live in Montana where it is very dry !! Even in the winter when we have snow. I use a garden sprayer to put a bit of moisture into my pine shavings on floor otherwise it will not compost. I think maybe that helps keep the dust down as well.

I take it myself. Don't know if it does any good, but it doesn't hurt. I take lots of other things as well (coral calcium, vitamins, and a bunch of other natural/herbal stuff), so who knows which ones are effective, but I feel good

I take 1 tablespoon per day mixed in about 1/2 cup of applesauce. Tastes good that way, as a matter of fact regular applesauce without the DE tastes weird to me now. Never had any ill effects from taking it. Mine is the food grade Permagaurd.
