Difference between Rouen and Mallard.

The OP posted 2 seperate pictures, one with chickens and one with chickens and pekins. In the posting with the pekin picture, the OP stated that the pekins were about 3 weeks younger than the ducks in question. Pekins do grow faster, but not that much faster. These are mallard ducks.

I guess it really doesnt matter if they are mallard or rouen, we love them either way. But we want to replace our drake that was killed and it would nice to get the right breed to replace him.

Okay, for size comparison, here's a pic of my pekins and rouens. These guys are the same age, all of them being about 7 months old.

Here's another pic with some 8 week old pekins and 4 week old rouens and cayugas

Remember that the pekins in this pic are 4 weeks older than the others.

I would definitely say that yours are mallards.

I would say mallard they are small..I got mine from TSC who told me they only sell mallards..My are little compared to my crestedand pekin,,,Mine fly no clipped wings..

They were labeled as Rouens and when they are a day old you kind of have to take their word for it.

The same thing happened to me and I discovered from the helpful members on this site that mine are mallards, too. Thanks, Wifezilla, for the pictures. I had to go back and check my duckling pictures...two had one stripe, and two had a second stripe, but on both it was broken (not a complete stripe).

Now I'm confused about my ducks

I know 2 are rouen but 1 I got from TSC. The best way to tell that I can think of once they get older is to see if they fly. My roen mix try's but the best he can do is standing on tip toes flapping his wings

I guess Im kind of confused as well. This is my 6 month old "rouen" hen next to my call drake. Would you say she is rouen or mallard?
